CROCOSMIA 'VOYAGER'.
Rich Chrome-Yellow self-sown seedling. Large flowers. Slow to increase. Dutch Hybrid by Jac. M. van Dijk, who has now given up on Crocosmia, and sold the nursery. Beautiful Flowers!!! One of my Favourites
CROCOSMIA 'Ex HOLEHIRD STRAIN'.
Masoniorum
Upward facing flowers of Vermillion Orange on arching stems. Collected from Holehird Gardens, Cumbria.
CROCOSMIA 'LORRAINE'.
Masoniorum seedling, Large sprays of open upward facing reflexed Orange flowers, Yellow centre, with protruding anthers. Very Pretty plant, named after Lorraine Dingwall, Forres, Moray, Scotland. By Mark Fox, Caistor, Lincolnshire.
CROCOSMIA 'VULCAN (A. Bloom)'.
This is very similar to ‘Bressingham Blaze’, but the flowers are a shade darker as is the slightly broader foliage. Bressingham hybrid. 1894; VICTOR LEMOINE CATALOGUE No.128, 1894; VICTOR LEMOINE; LEMOINE'S CATALOGUES 1894- 1907, 13 YEARS.
CROCOSMIA 'CARMINEA'.
Carmine Scarlet, very distinctive, Orange-Yellow centre. This may be the forerunner to ‘Carmin Brilliant’ or the surviving plant renamed after the second world war by the Pfitzer Nursery.
CROCOSMIA 'LIMPOPO'.
New sterile hybrid. Dense heads of 6cm wide Pink flowers with an Apricot throat. Long blooming and very vigorous.
CROCOSMIA 'OKAVANGO'.
Very large (5cm wide) rounded broad-petalled blowsy Peach flowers in dense heads over a very long period (Jul-Oct), very vigorous. A new sterile hybrid of great worth. Later into growth than other kinds (mid to late May).
CROCOSMIA 'HARVEST GOLD'.
Complete with Capsid Bug........
CROCOSMIA 'ROWALLANE APRICOT'.
Masoniorum
1990, Breeder unknown. A soft Apricot-Orange form with a much longer inflourescence than normal but very slow to increase. Named after the garden in which it originated, Rowallane Garden in Northern Ireland, now owned by the National Trust, where it occurred as a self sown seedling resulting from a cross of ‘Rowallane Orange’ and ‘Rowallane Yellow’.
CROCOSMIA 'AMBERGLOW'.
X Crocosmiiflora.
1984, Browne. (‘Jackanapes’ x ‘Solfatare’). Soft Orange flower. Purple spots around the Cream centre. Bronze foliage. H. 60 – 70cm. Phillipa Browne Hybrid. Overseas Farm Nursery, Little Marcle, Ledbury, Herefordshire.
Crocosmia 'Scarlatti'. Robust, with a bright Red, trumpet shaped flower.
Crocosmia 'Philippa Browne'. Large Orange-Red flowers of good substance, July-Sept, upright dark foliage. Healthy dark Green foliage, very effective. Robust and easy. Philippa Browne Hybrid.
CROCOSMIA 'DARK LEAF APRICOT'. Named in error by Gary Dunlop. Before he changed the name, the name was 'Dark Leaf Apricot', before this it was 'Coleton Seedling'. It has also been 'Rowden Bronze'. Really the correct name should be 'Coleton Seedling' and because it was a seedling found at Coleton Fishacre garden by Colin Rogers. I like to refer to the previous and popular name of 'Dark Leaf Apricot'. It is impossible for this plant to be Gerbe d'Or, Gerbe d'Or was a dwarf hybrid bred by Lemoine in the nineteenth century. Possibly the closest to the original 'Gerbe d'Or' in cultivation is 'Mount Usher'; and 'Mount Usher' is the probable parent of the Citronella types. 'Mount Usher' is a lot better than any of the Citronellas.
CROCOSMIA 'MARS'. Known Sometimes in trade as a dwarf Orange and Yellow flowered Masoniorum hybrid, but should be a Red x Crocosmia hybrid. Both names are allowed to stand as they are based on different species.
CROCOSMIA 'WALBERTON RED'. A hybrid of unknown parentage with C. Masoniorum dominance. A slowly increasing Red flowered plant with sickly looking, dusky foliage. The original stock was destroyed by the breeder as he considered the plant to be inferior, but not before some plants had been distributed. He suggested the name ‘Old Hat’ should be used for the surviving plants, but the original name, having been published must stand.
CROCOSMIA 'R. W WALLACE'. A charming variety. A clear Golden Yellow. Erect habit, reverse, deep Orange; centre, White and Gold shaded. 1926; EARLHAM GIANT MONTBRETIAS CATALOGUES 1926. FITT/ MONTAGU.
CROCOSMIA 'OLYMPIC FIRE'. Somber Bronzed swords of foliage and numerous flaming Orange flowers, throated and backed with rich Yellow. Late flowering.
CROCOSMIA 'AFRICAN BEAUTY'. Orange-Red flowers with Yellow centre.
CROCOSMIA 'KIAUTSHOU'. Old German hybrid, medium sized Apricot-Yellow flowers. New, dwarf, deep Golden-Yellow flowers, very free. Ref: Daisy Hill Catalogue No.68, 1906. Ref: Wilhelm Pfitzer Assortment Book (Trials Book) 1898.
CROCOSMIA 'LUCIFER (TRUE VERSION)'. Rich Red, robust hybrid, flowers come true from seed and can self-seed. Bressingham Hybrid by Alan Bloom, first bred in 1966. RHS Certificate of Preliminary Commendation, 1977. Award of Garden Merit, 1993.
CROCOSMIA 'VESUVIUS'. Very dark, Fiery Red (Krelage1896).
CROCOSMIA 'DUSKY MAIDEN'. Dull Orange flowers, dark Bronze foliage. Colour scheme is a contrast to the usual vivid colours of this genus. Philippa Browne hybrid.
CROCOSMIA 'AURORA'. Very large flowers, pure Orange - Yellow. Tall grower. KAWB Award of Merit 1927.
CROCOSMIA 'ROWALLANE ORANGE'. Considered superior because it is a slower-growing selection of the species.
CROCOSMIA 'MASONIORUM EX. SLIEVE DONARD'. Supplied by Gary Dunlop, that was originally offered for sale by Slieve Donard Nurseries.
CROCOSMIA 'COLWALL'. Sturdy, robust and Red flowered, with Bronze tinted foliage, flowers are about 6cm across.
CROCOSMIA 'B9'. Philippa Browne hybrid. Overseas Farm Nursery, Little Marcle, Ledbury, Herefordshire. Very pretty dwarf. Hardier of Phillipa Browne Hybrids.
CROCOSMIA 'NORWICH CANARY'. Small Golden-Yellow flowered cultivar of Dutch origin. The wholesale Nursery of Howard and Coeij was reported to be the first to use this name for the Dutch plant, then was wrongly sold as ‘Lady Wilson’, which is lost to cultivation and had a much larger flower. ‘Norwich Canary’ is currently sold as ‘George Davison’. (No.14, 1917, Parentage - George Henley x Tangerine, ref. J.E. Fitt Notebook) CANARY YELLOW. 1917: REF: J. E. FITT, NOTEBOOK 'MONTBRETIAS' Norwich Canary - One of the old Earlham Giant Montbretia (1913-1939).
CROCOSMIA 'HIS MAJESTY'. Described as a glorious new, free flowering variety, and by far the finest Earlham Hybrid that appeared to that date. The centre of the flower is clear Yellow, and this shades into brilliant Crimson-Scarlet, the latter colour being densest at the tips of the broad tepals. PLANTS IN SPRING, 15/-EACH, £70 A HUNDRED. DRY BULBS £2 2s. 0d. EACH. 1919; EARLHAM GIANT MONTBRETIAS CATALOGUE 1920. FITT/ MORRIS. One of the old Earlham Giant Montbretia (1913-1939). RHS First Class Certificate, 1919. KAVB Award of Merit, 1925. First Class Certificate, 1926.
CROCOSMIA 'ORANGE SPIRIT'. One of the crocosmia bred by Farmyard Nurseries, Carmarthenshire, Wales. Bright, yet soft Orange flowers, held in beautiful arching sprays.
CROCOSMIA 'DAVID FITT'. Bred by David Fenwick. Bred July 1999. Parentage: Seed parent Crocosmia 'Zeal Giant' bred by Terry Jones of Zeal Monachorum, Devon, England. Pollen donor Crocosmia 'Lucifer' bred by Alan Bloom, Blooms of Bressingham, Diss, Norfolk, England, in 1966. It must be noted that both parents have provenance, and both were obtained from the breeders. Crocosmia 'Lucifer' originating from stock held since its 1966 breeding. Height: 130cm, but could attain more under better conditions. Actual height could be between 150 and 180cm. Habit: A tall, erect, sturdy Crocosmia of original C. paniculata and C. masoniorum parentage, i.e. a 'maspan' hybrid. Habit similar to C. 'Lucifer', but with slightly broader foliage. Leaves Pleated, mid-green, similar to 'Lucifer' but slightly wider. Flowers Zygomorphic. 50mm (2 inches), top to bottom. 40mm wide. Length 55mm. Orange / Orange-red on three higher segments, three lower segment red-orange. Deep red throat markings similar to 'Zeal Giant', these markings diffuse through the full length of the lower segments. Yellow throat. Carmine blush. Reverse, orange suffused orange-red, yellow tail. Buds, dark red, green-yellow at base. Upper Segment - 28mm x 16mm Upper Pair - 21mm x 9mm Lower Pair - 24mm x 12mm Lower Segment - 19mm x 7.5mm Length of Inflourescence (First to last flower) 190 - 230mm Flowering Time Mid - Late July - (Early August) Scapes Very strong and thick, of a deep red-purple colour, divided, with two sub-branches. One of the most unusual and attractive features of the plant. Farinose. Branching angle, 30 degrees. Other Comments Drought resistant and frost hardy. Could be a good seed donor for other crosses of the type due to the deepness of colour of the scape. Crosses with yellow C. masoniorum hybrids such as Walberton Yellow, Rowallane, or Jenny Bloom could produce plants of some merit. Named after David Fitt by David and Colleen Fenwick on meeting with the Fitt Family at The Norwich in Bloom, Crocosmia Identification Day, held at The Assembly Rooms, Norwich, Norfolk, 20th July 2002. David is the son of Jack Fitt, Head Garden of Earlham Hall 1916 - 1926 and Breccles Hall 1926-, and breeder with Sydney Morris and George Henley, of The Earlham Giant Montbretia. Of three sons, Peter, John Alan and David, David is the only son not to have a Crocosmia or Montbretia named after him. Indeed, both brothers have Earlham Giants named after them.
CROCOSMIA 'JACKANAPES SEEDLING X'. Philippa Browne hybrid.
CROCOSMIA 'ORANGE DEVIL'. Form typical of many hybrids of this parentage, with rich Orange-Red flowers with a Golden Orange suffusion inside. It was apparently a Bressingham Gardens reject, inadvertently sold by mistake as ‘Lucifer’ when that cultivar was first released.(C. Saunders, Pers, comm.. 2003).
CROCOSMIA 'LANA DE SAVARY'. Bright Red-Orange free flowering plant. Bred by Augustus John Hogan of Hayle, Cornwall in the late 1980s.

CROCOSMIA 'GLORIA'. Clear Yellow flowers, deepening at the margins. Gloria hybrid called Gloria is a small masoniorum hybrid that was bred by Phillipa Browne of Little Marcle, Ledbury. It was first given the breeding name of ‘B7’ and erroneously entered the horticultural Trade as ‘Short Red’.

CROCOSMIA 'HIGHLIGHT'. Attractive, with pale Orange flowers closely resembling those of C. Masoniorum but with Yellow centre. It was supplied to Bridgemere Nurseries under a wrong cultivar name by a Dutch supplier, and was given a suitable new name before being put on sale. (C. Saunders. Pers. Comm. 1998).
CROCOSMIA 'GOLDEN FLEECE'. Name applied to a freely branching form, with pale Yellow, trumpet shaped flowers, similar to what is widely, but wrongly, in commerce known as ‘Citronella’. It is similar to ‘Gerbe d’Or’, also called ‘Golden Sheaf’, ‘Honey Angels’ and ‘Loweswater’. ‘Sulphurea’ is similar but taller and more robust. There are at least six similar clones in cultivation under differing names. The name in French was originally used by Lemoine for a large flowered Yellow cultivar, ‘Toison D’Or’.
CROCOSMIA 'SULTAN'. Rich Red flowers with Purple spotted Yellow centres. Bronze foliage. Philippa Browne hybrid.

CROCOSMIA, 'CORONA'. Rich Orange flowers with irregular dark flaring around the centre summertime. Robust.
CROCOSMIA, 'EX MALAHIDE'. Flowers intermediate between those of the parents, large and Yellow, bright and striking, with the tepals centrally streaked Red. The flowers are sideward facing from the Masoniorum form of inflorescence. Plants can be difficult to establish initially. The stoloniferous habit is derived from both parents, and exaggerated to the extent that satellite shots can first appear above ground as much as 18” away from the original planting. The origins of this hybrid are obscure, Fred Knutty, of Malahide Nursery, Dublin, Ireland as C. Masoniourm in the 1970’s. The name ‘Comet’ was inappropriately attached to the plant by Gary Dunlop, based on early descriptions by George Davison’s cultivar of that name. As C. Masoniorum didn’t arrive in the British Isles until the 1950’s, that identification was incorrect. The name is however, still valid, as it is applied to a hybrid of different parentage and was published. Several other names have been applied by various nurseries, ‘Fred Knutty’s’, ‘Malahide’, ‘Malahide Castle’ and ‘Jim Reynolds’. The latter name derives from plants being subsequently distributed by Jim Reynolds from his Butterstream Gardens, County Meath, Ireland

CROCOSMIA "FLEUVE-JAUNE", (Yellow River). Similar to Solfatare, Floriferous plant, flowers coloured Napal-Yellow. ID by David Fenwick.
CROCOSMIA "ZAMBESI", This plant is a result of 19 years of breeding, I am reliably informed. 2nd of a series of 3 - named after the African rivers, Bright Orange edges and Yellow inner circle, very large flowers, as big as Star of the East, Hardy, Sunny spot. This plant it subject to PLANT BREEDERS RIGHTS. Very large 7.5cm wide mid orange flowers with darker orange markings in the mouth.
CROCOSMIA 'EASTERN PROMISE'. Flowers have a soft Orange exterior and bright Yellow interior. I think this one was bred by Eric Smith, it was originally circulated by Alan Lewis of Forde Abbey Garden, Chard, Somerset. Alan has since given up the nursery there. Probably a bit of C. Aurea blood in its genes. Very prone to slug damage.
