The Evans Family History.

Decendants of William and Phoebe Evans

William Evans was born in Cardiff Wales in 1833 he arrived in Dunedin in 1850.  Phoebe Westlake was born in London 1852 and arrived in Dunedin in 1860.  William and Phoebe married in 1869 and had five children Hannah, Daisy, John, Morris (Owens Father) and Phoebe little Phoebe living only 2 days. William died in 8th of June 1910 at the age of 77. His wife Phoebe died through drowning on the 29th December 1894 aged 43. There are five buried in the grave at the Southern cemetry in Dunedin. William, his wife Phoebe, their little daughter of two days Phoebe, Morris their son aged 37 and Morris David son of Annie and Owen Evans.
 Morris died in 1921 aged 37  leaving his wife Bertha with three young children Lydia, Vera and Morris Owen ( Born 26th February 1915 ) Owen would have only been six years old.  Bertha's Father being John Donaldson Scoullar born in Melbourne Victoria and her Mother was Mary Louisa
Scoullar (nee Gibbs) Born Tackly, Oxfordshire England. The Gibbs Family came to New Zealand on the ship Cartsburn.  Bertha  remarried. Jack Milne was her second husband and they had a daughter Rena.  Rena is married to Alfred Hoyle.  Owen spent much of his young life with his Mother Bertha's brother Jim Scoullar (Uncle Jim), and his wife Helen (Auntie Helen). Jim Scoullar had a milk run (Horse and cart) in South Dunedin and he bred and raced pigeons.

Annie and Owen

Morris Owen Evans Owen to his family was born in Dunedin on the 26th February 1914 third child of Bertha nee Scoullar and Morris Evans. Annie was born at Dunedin on the 21st June 1915.  5th and Youngest child of Margaret and David Griffiths. They met while Owen was coaching a Womens cricket Team in Dunedin. He got his eye on Annie and asked her to play for his team and the rest is history they fell in love and were married on the 16th December 1936 at First Church in Dunedin.
They had six children Their first born a son Morris David died when he was only 3 days old. He is buried in the Southern cemetry Dunedin with his Great grandfather William Evans.

Rena Margaret born Dunedin  26/9/1943 married Ivan Butel in Ranfurly 13/6/1970.
Wendy Fay born Dunedin  12/10/1944 married Des Dougherty in Ranfurly 30/10/1965.
Owen John born in Ranfurly  1/9/1951 married Judith Hudson in Dunedin 15/12/1973.
Richard Edward born Ranfurly  1/4/1954 married Susan Richardson in Ranfurly 17/9/1977.

They made a huge shift to Oturehua Central Otago with three little girls and then went on to work on a farm in White Sow Valley Wedderburn where the 2 boys were born.

Ranfurly Cemetry

Owen died very suddenly at age 64 on the 8th of September 1980. Annie lived till she was aged 91, never missing a week putting a fresh flower on her beloved Owens grave. In this time she moved from her house in Fraser Ave Ranfurly to a pensioners flat learning to drive and buying herself a little yellow ford escort, and taking up bowls and loving it. She moved to the Chalet rest home Ranfurly on the 23rd March 2002. she loved living in this lovely place till the last four days of her life. She died in the Ranfurly hospital on the 6th of March 2007.
Both Annie and Owen are buried in the Ranfurly Cemetry.
