Thanks from the society Keith

Keith has very kindly offered  copies of archives from his very extensive collection to Keighley & District Local History Society, and I am more than proud to be one of the people he decided to share his treasures with.  I look forward to opening my e-mails each day, knowing there will usually be at least a couple of fascinating historical documents awaiting me.
Keith has written an introduction to a CD which the society intends to produce. Many of Keith's superb items will be on this CD.
Keith now explains his fascination with history.

A FEW WORDS FROM THE MAN HIMSELF

Keith Spencer F.R.P.S. MEMBER 52

Keighley & District Local History Society

Introduction

Herewith a few words describing my interest and intentions -

I have enjoyed collecting a wide range of items covering the subject of local history for many years in a quiet, discreet kind of way.

In recent times I have concluded that amongst my collection are some items that would contain valuable information to others who follow the same interest as myself.

Whilst the information is in the hands of one person there is always the possibility of it being lost in many varied ways.

Because of this and my desire to share, I have in recent times been passing copies of my collected material to Barbara Klempka, our Secretary, and Jan Perkins, our Archivist, so it may be placed into our Society records.

I am in agreement that as many as possible of the items be placed on this CD, as in this age, it is the most likely and easiest way of circulating them.

There are a number of items that are too large for the CD to accommodate and I understand they will be introduced straight into the archives.

Jan has very kindly offered to select and arrange the CD content for me. Indeed, make the whole CD for our Society. I am most grateful for this.

I must stress that I am purely an enthusiastic amateur collector but my collection is extensive and I hope there will be some content to interest everyone.

The subjects within this CD and material placed in the archives, comprise of such items as –

Wills, Indentures, Stock Books, Estimate Books, Accounts, Invoices, Receipts, Advertisements, Lettings, Factory Children’s and Young Persons Registers, Post cards, Photographs, Etchings, Maps, Certificates, Bill Heads, Bills of Quantities, Religious items, Remembrance and Funeral cards and ribbons, Booklets, Newspaper cuttings, Hymn Books, Letters etc. etc.

I am born and bred in Keighley and so proud to be a Yorkshire man.

May I conclude by adding that I have experienced great pleasure in putting my collection together and I sincerely hope that you will find it interesting and useful too?

Keith.
