Welcome to Laycock Village & Surrounding Hamlets
of Goose Eye, Holme House, Braithwaite & Newsholme
plus all the outlying farms.
The village is listed in the Domesday Book of 1086 and was probably
founded much earlier as it is close to the site of an old Roman road crossing the nearby River Aire.
Farming has been the main activity for many generations but the water
courses, originally used to sustain livestock, have been harnessed to drive waterwheels and later steam engines to power the local mills.
