 Press Release
Appeal for amateur historians
The Second World War Experience Centre is a charity which was established in 1998 to collect and preserve wartime letters, diaries, photographs, papers and tape recordings of memories, documenting life at home and abroad during the war. Now we are in 2007, it really is a race against time, as soon many of these memories will be lost forever.
The Leeds-based museum is appealing for volunteers to come in to the Centre for half a day a week to process the war-time material which is donated on a regular basis. Volunteers will be asked to study material for cross-referencing and to highlight interesting information. Collections Manager Simon Braithwaite says, “We would like to hear from people who may have a love for history and are enthusiastic and meticulous. It is a privilege to process the material given to us – learning about direct personal experiences of the war is truly fascinating. We are also keen to recruit a volunteer administrator for a few hours a week to help with duties that are vital to the Centre”.
For further information about volunteering at the Centre, please call the Volunteer Coordinator, Simon Braithwaite on 0113 258 4993.
-End-
Notes to editor:
As well as providing an invaluable resource for historians, societies, researchers, authors and broadcasters, the Centre also works with schools to ensure that the knowledge of this period is not forgotten.
