National School, corner of Suresnes Road & West Lane, later called St Andrew's School. Was demolished and re-sited at Lustre Street, off West Lane. The St Andrew's Surgery now occupies the land. I THINK the original school gates are there, can anyone confirm for me? Jan

Eastwood Board School Opened on April 18th 1876 with 68 children & 2 teachers but by the end of April the school was too small for the number of children wanting to attend. The first headteacher was Miss Christina Tempest. On April 26th 1876, she wrote in the log book "The number of scholars for this week exceeding the number for which school accommodation has been provided (172). Orders have been given by the members of the board for infants only to be admitted to this school., the older children to be transported to the Cavendish Street Temporary School"
A view of Eastwood school as most of us will remember it.

left of the playground, to the left rear is the Engineering company of Ward
