David SYKES and his Auntie Jean (CLAYTON) kindly given us permission to place some of their fascinating family pictures on our site.

Book Cover - GtGtGrandfather Joseph SMITH - Cab Proprietor outside The Livery Stables which he owned.

1. GtGt Uncle Joe (Joseph SMITH Jr) - estimated at approximately 38 years of age, serving in the 1914-1918 War. There is a strong facial likeness to Joseph SMith Sr, which makes David pretty sure who he is.

2.GtGrandmother (Ann HODGSON/SMITH born 1866) Joe Jr's elder sister on the right and their sister Emily (born 1875) on the left. No knowledge of the little baby. Picture taken about 1936 so the little girl, may recognise herself.

3. George in the Middle holding the name card, later to become a
4. Comic entertainer, on right of the picture. He also used to play piano in one of the Keighley cinemas. Finally becoming a greengrocer and piano tuner living up Fell Lane.

5. Airedale Bowling Club - 1909 era
photographer H Charlton - Aireworth Street.It is just fifty years since the Airedale Bowling Club - based at the time down Royd Ings Avenue - covered itself in glory by winning the Yorkshire Cup, clinching the final by 16 points against Harworth Colliery in a game played at Crosland Moor Liberal Club. This is at the bottom end of Cougar Park,(Keighley R L F C ) Lawkholme - Information from Derek - Thank you

6. Simply entitled "1914" Gt Aunt Mary lived at Bogthorn - had a housekeeper named Mary CLEGG, quite well-to-do, is she a SMITH sibling also?

7. GtGtGrandmother Ann, middle right with top hat without a buttonhole. Sign on the wall says "Keighley Union - Election of Guardians" David suspects picture about 1916 as the absence of men is a poignant reminder of the consequences of the war.
Knowle Park Chapel - Fell Lane.
David states this is an excellent inspiration for the Sgt Pepper album sleeve - I have to agree with him.

8. This picture was taken in 1926 with Nellie HODGSON, David's mother when she was 6 years old outside her home in Fell Lane.

Daughters of George Arthur were Marion, Nellie and Jean Hodgson, each born at 10 year intervals. 1908/ 1918 / 1928.

Jean married Arthur CLAYTON and lived at Thorncliffe Rd, they worshipped at Fell Lane Chapel.
 
Marion married John Hodgson. They were Steward & Stewardess of the Bocking WMC in the 50's/60's/70's.
