Efter et pragtfuldt ophold i Sydney var tiden kommet til at fortsætte rejsen mod Australiens midte, kaldet Red Centre pga. sin røde jord. Jeg fløj med Qantas til Alice Springs, en tur på 3,5 time, og landede ved frokoststid for straks at mærke den utrolige forandrig fra sted til sted i dette kæmpeland. Vejret var meget varmt og tørt og området tyndt befolket - selv den lille lufthavn i Alice Springs var en stor kontrast til storbyen Sydney. Jeg havde bestilt lejebil og hentede en herlig Toyota Rav 4 firhjulstrækker. Så satte jeg langsomt kurs mod Alice Springs centrum, og jeg siger langsomt for de kører i venstre side i Australien og det tager lidt tid at vænne sig til!

After a wonderful stay in Sydney time had come to continue my journey towards the centre of Australia, the so-called Red Centre due to the colour of its soil. I flew with Qantas to Alice Springs, a trip of 3,5 hours, and landed at lunchtime. Immediately, I noticed the great difference from one place to the other in this enormous country. The weather was hot and dry, the country lightly populated and even the tiny Alice Springs airport was a contrast to big city Sydney. I had ordered a hire car and picked up a lovely Toyota Rav 4 four-wheel-drawn, then heading slowly towards downtown Alice Springs. And I do mean slowly as the Australians drive on the left side of the road and this takes a while to get used to!

Tras una maravillosa visita en Sydney llegó la hora de seguir mi viaje hasta el centro del país, llamado el Red Centre (Centro Rojo) por el color de su tierra. Volé con Qantas hasta Alice Springs, un vuelo de 3,5 horas con llegada al mediodía, y inmediatamente noté la gran diferencia que hay entre un lugar y otro en este inmenso país. El clima era muy caliente y seco, la zona muy poco poblada y hasta el pequeño aeropuerto de Alice Springs contrasta con la gran ciudad de Sydney. Había alquilado un coche y fuí a recoger un precioso 4 x 4 marca Toyota Rav 4. Luego puse rumo muy despacito hacia el centro de Alice Springs - y digo despacito ya que en Australia se conduce por el lado izquierdo y tardas un poco en acostumbrarte!

Alice Springs som de lokale kærligt kalder "The Alice" er hovedstaden i staten Northern Territory og jeg brugte eftermiddagen på at shoppe i hovedgaden Todd Mall hvor der var mange gallerier med Aboriginal Art. Her købte jeg flotte malerier af den såkaldte "dot-painting" type, og en smuk håndmalet Didjeridoo, en slags stor fløjte der bruges ved rituelle danse. Der var mærkbart mange aboriginal, Australiens oprindelige befolkning.

Alice Springs, locally know as "The Alice" is the capital of the Northern Territory and I spent the afternoon shopping at Todd Mall, the main shopping street. There were many Aboriginal Art galleries and I bought some lovely "dot" paintings and a hand-painted Didjeridoo, a type of large flute used in ceremonial dances. There were many aboriginal, the original population of Australia.

Alice Springs que cariñosamente llaman "The Alice" es la capital del estado del Teritorio del Norte, y pasé la tarde haciendo compras en la calle comercial principal Todd Mall. Había muchas galerias de arte aborigen y compré unos bonitos óleos tipo "dot-painting" y un Didjeridoo pintado a mano, una especie de flauta grande que se usa en danzas rituales. Había mucha gente aborigen, la población original de Australia.
