Gene's Family Journal
Saturday August 5th, 2006

This week Quinn had two Doctors appointments. One with the specialist and one just to get her 10 month shot. The specialist appointment was booked 6 months ago. At that time her joints were popping, sort of like cracking your knuckles. Also her right foot was slightly crooked from the way she was squished in the womb. The specialist said she was fine, all normal stuff. Maria was also concerned about her weight (Nona & Nono keep stuffing food in her mouth), doctor said that there is no such thing as an over weight baby.

I know it has been a while since I have updated this journal, but I have been very busy with the house. So during the last two weeks, other than house construction, not much has happened. With the exception of one big event. Quinn graduated from her swimming class. She has been taking swimming lessons twice a week for the past month or so. She loves the water and has done very well. She did not like putting her head underwater at first, but soon got used to it. Maria was able to take her, and participate in her lessons, seeing the two of them laughing and playing in the pool lifts my heart. I was only able to show up once, so I was sure to take many pictures. They can be viewed at my other site.

We worked on this tractor barn on and off over the last few days. Well, David did most of the work before I got there, but didn't have it sided. So with the help of Sandy, Ralph, Jordo and myself, David's little barn is almost complete. Being the resourceful guy Dave is, most of the materials were aquired at no cost. Screws from another teardown, roof from a neighbor, and metal siding from the old town arena. And he even saved his money on the building permit, there wasn't one.

Here is a shot of the Dave, Sandy, Ralph and me having a little break while we waited for the fairway to clear. It was a nice day spent with my brothers, but my game was craps.  I brought my clubs with me from BC, but I might have had better luck using a stick out of the woods. Thank goodness there was a beer cart to keep me happy.

Quinn's first trip to the beach.

I went to Victoria this weekend to visit with Kashmir. I took mommy and Zia Fil along too. On Saturday we all went to the beach. It was very hot. Mommy put sunscreen on me so I wouldn't burn my skin and turn red like a lobster. Mommy forgot to bring my nice hat with the flower, so she bought me this new pretty pink one. I like it too. I liked the water splashing on my legs, the sand between my toes, and playing with my bucket and shovel. I didn't really like the sand in my swimming diaper though. This was my first time at the beach, but I think I will be back. But next time I will bring my daddy too.

Congratulations Jamie-Lynn !!!!!

Jamie graduated today, and she sang O'Canada on stage. She did such a great job. It brought a tear to her dads eye. We are so proud of her. After the ceremony she had her dinner dance at the Pan Pacific hotel. I showed up at 9:00 for the Father daughter dance. She looked so beautiful in her fancy dress.

I Love you Jamie-Lynn

Well another week has passed.  Out with the old, in with the new. We are well on our way now. We are framing traditional style. Afterwards all the lumber will be stripped and used in the framing of the exterior of the house.
We are anticipating pouring the cement on Monday.

More to come.

Well it is finally here, Demolition day. It was certainly a sad day for some people. The end of an era. Many fond memories were created in this old house. This is just a reminder that nothing lasts forever. Time to make new memories.

Today was a very special day. Not only was it Mothers day, but a very special Mothers day for us. For today was Maria's first Mothers Day. We celebrated this Mothers Day by having Quinn baptized. She was such a good baby, she didn't cry at all. We had the ceremony at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, followed by dinner at Sappiro's Restaraunt. We had about 32 people join us for the celebration, but we were short about 14 people.

Here is a shot of the old house, it is very close to Demo day.  They are digging a hole to complete the Geotech Soil Survey. They thought we may be in a bog area. They were wrong and we were out $1200.
