Obedience a surprisingly exciting sport!
Preparing for our Obedience Career
Quinn is my first performance dog.....we really enjoy training for competitive obedience. Quinn has been quite a teacher.

We are training all of the exercises from Novice, Open and Utility.

November 2007 obedience video clips of Quinn can be found from this site's menu, which include: scent discrimination, retrieve on flat and over high, heeling (strut). Do check him out! We will add the more recent events to the bottom of the page as they occur... we invite you to join us on our journey!

Quinn's Obedience trial experiences began in the fall of 2008. For pictures and updates refer to the homepage menu tabs for AKC Obedience News, ASCA Obedience News and UKC Obedience news.

Such a fun dog and fabulous companion!
Obedience match in Goleta CA, during the 'fast' segment of a Novice heeling pattern. Look how cute an obedience dog he makes! The judge (an AKC judge) Bill Iwamoto, offered me several tips, one look up a bit more.
Flip Finish - into heel position!
This photo was taken early on in Quinn's obedience training. He blew me away with a flashy flip finish, he was as high as my head, landing in perfect heel position.

Quinn has such enthusiasm for obedience!
Ready!
DOC Match - Novice A
                              What a hoot!

July 12th we had a busy schedule.

A 3 hour Obedience workshop in the morning, followed by a nap for Quinn, while I went to the office to get some work done.

By 4 o'clock we were carpooling to the Downey Obedience Club Obedience and Rally Match with our training pals Christy and her Aussie teammate Tyler.

Gosh summer evening events are marvelous fun; the dogs are lively and the darkness creates a fabulous backdrop with the  rings illuminated, accentuating the action.

This match was a huge boost for our confidence in the ring as a team.  We enjoyed a special connection that is really what dogsports is all about!
After playing and training for an hour awaiting the judging to begin, we had an absolutely exciting time in the ring! WOW a 196!
Matches To prepare for Trials...

September 14th, 2008

It was a lovely day in Goleta, so  much cooler than home!  We met a training buddy and her Whippets at Girsh Park for Los Padres Obedience Club Obedience and Rally match. This match is stupendous! The match hosts are friendly and supportive and the judges, well it doesn't get any better - they are AKC licensed judges! Bill Iwamoto for obedience, Barbara Arine for Rally.  We received our score sheet with a 195 and feedback from our judge, Bill Iwamoto!

Quinn was fabulous!  We had a blast!
After the match we went on a lovely hike with water crossings and swimming holes..Quinn was in heaven!

Coincidently our armband number was 21
Gorgeous day in Brea for the Santa Ana Kennel Club Sanctioned B Match.

As a Sanctioned Match there is no training, toys nor treats.
AKC trial rules prevail. Novice 'A' was a large class. The first 8 teams were run thru the individual exercises, completed their group stays, and then our group was judged. All qualifiers returned to the ring together for awards.
Placements were handed out in reverse order (oh the anticipation): 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st.....which was US with a 197!

W-O-W !  How exciting is that!

We are gaining valuable experience and feedback to train between events...no problem, we enjoy or daily training outings.  We are getting so close to trialing - what fun that will be!
