On Friday the 25 April around 80 Ladies from the East of England celebrated the 10th Birthday of the Red Hat Society ,everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves in the beautiful Spring sunshine. We enjoyed an open topped bus tour around  Cambridge that pointed out all or most of the Colleges, The Backs and of course the River Cam
Part way around we took a short stop at the American Cemetery, it was very dignified and actually seeing all the Ladies in their colours amongst the shimmering white of the Portland stone was quite a moving and respectful sight.

We continued on to Queens’ College and after photograph’s we entered the Old Court of the 15th Century Manor House across the famous Mathematical Bridge to be welcomed into The Old Dining Rooms with a glass of Buck’s Fizz. The original dining hall at Queens’ College Cambridge, has been used by Fellows and students for over 500 years, the interior is richly decorated and above the Tudor fireplace are tiles attributed to William Morris and his associates, together with a Minstrel’s Gallery the hall provides an historical atmosphere in a very unique and truly splendid setting. October - December 2008

Our Dinner at the White Hart was attended by just 22 Belles one of our smallest groups of late, however it was a most enjoyable cosy evening with lots of chatter among those attending

19 Belles had already spent the afternoon at the public hall in Witham thoroughly enjoying the Neil Sands 'Remember When' concert

On Wednesday 8 October we had great fun attending the Cancer Research Fashion Show, especially admiring the fab clothes modelled by our own Hazel, QM Lady Lily Whose entrance on the catwalk brought loud cheers from the 17 Belles in attendance, a great evening was had by all!

October drew to an end with two theatre trips, the first to see the stage version of 'Allo Allo' and the second for a performance of Gilbert & Sullivan's 'Pirates of Penzance'

Our visit to the Mercury was made extra special for some of the Belles who had chance to chat in the bar after the show with the stars Geoffrey Holland and Vicky Michelle (an original cast member of Allo Allo TV Series)plus other members of the cast who all showed a great interest in the Red Hat Society

Linda, Queen LindyLou and Pat Lady Lilacblossom enjoyed meeting Moira Queen of the Scarlet O'Hara's Waterloo Canada in Sudbury
Queen Dorry of the Bardwell Batty Bees arranged for us all to meet for lunch, Lady Tinkerbell Queen of the Daft Old Bats of Bedford and Marion Countess Caprice also joined us and a lovely lunch with 'Thrift' shop trawls later was enjoyed by us all

Our November Dinner at the White Hart turned out to be our largest to date with 38 members in attendance, so very busy and noisy but lots of fun for everyone

Several of the Belles enjoyed a fun afternoon with the Pearls in a 'Laughter Yoga' session

We had our quarterly 'Sunday Lunch' in November with 8 Belles enjoying a super lunch at Crofters Wime Bar, a great opportunity to get to know each other better!

We also had one of best events of the year in November our trip to Thursford Christmas Spectacular
We were joined by the Purple Pearls and we all enjoyed a fabulous show certainly putting us all in the Christmas spirit
Having stopped at the Green Man Little Snoring for a coffee break we arrived at Thursford in good time to visit Santa Land and browse the Christmas Shops before the show

Janet Lady Beatrice attended with her consort Maurice  as did Janet Princess Purple Petunia with her consort Eric, both with other friends rather than as Ruby Belles, but everyone was pleased to see each other. Unfortunately Linda Queen LindyLou was taken ill through the day so unable to attend what all the Belles told her was a brilliant evening, Queen Mum Hazel Lady Lily reigned supreme through the evening and kept the court in good order

Our final event for 2008 was the Abba Tribute Night Dinner at Benton Hall Golf Club, with 40 Ladies attending we certainly added lots of colour to the Christmas party atmosphere. Ruby Belles were first up dancing and last off the floor, with vocal chords strained from all our singing the lyrics to the great Abba music score to the film Mamma Mia, what better way to finalise the Ruby Belles year
