Online Learning
featuring Becca Thrift

Agility Online Series of Courses: a group of Six (6) courses each consisting of six lesson presented over 12 weeks. Each lesson includes a written plan as well as video examples. The sessions are progressive in that they each build on the previous course. Depending on the prospective student’s individual training level, and in consultation with and the approval of Becca, it may be possible to start the Series with a higher level course.

Foundations One (F1): This session focuses on teaching your Dog the initial foundation skills needed to become a successful agility partner. This course is beneficial to any age Dog and covers all the basics including impulse control, toy play and beginning contact performance.

Foundations Two (F2): Proficiency in the skills learned in F1 will allow the introduction of the basic foundations needed for agility handling as well as additional skills needed prior to the introduction of “real” agility equipment.

Foundations Three (F3): During this session the group will cover beginning jumping skill, commitment point games, continuation of the 2on, 2off contact performance training, as well as work toward increasing your canine teammates understanding of flatwork and beginning obstacle skills.

Foundations Four (F4): Building on the work of F3 this session will continue working to improve the participants handling proficiency and flatwork understanding while introducing specific skills and maneuvers needed for today’s competitive team.

Foundations Four continues (F4.5): Building on the work of F4 this session will continue working to improve the participants handing proficiency and focus on transitioning flatwork skills into sequencing.  This session will also introduce a few additional skills and techniques needed for teamwork success.

Foundations Five (F5): Note: in order to participate fully in this session the prospective participant will need access to 4 Jumps, 1 tunnel and a preferred contact training object. Jump fabrication guidance is available from John.

This session will proof the team’s understanding of specific skills and begin the introduction of those skills into short agility sequences. The group will also continue work with 2on, 2off contact training, discrimination skills as well as impulse control around playing the agility game.

Masters Handling Course: features six (6) lessons over a twelve (12) week period that will focus on improving the handling abilities of Advanced level teams as well as their on-course communication skills. Each session will feature a lesson plan containing a small course setup map detailing six (6) sequences for drill work as well as guidance for proofing the Dog’s understanding of a specific skill. Video will be provided showing how Becca develops and proofs her Dog’s understanding of the skill. Additionally, video of Becca completing the example sequences will offer viewable explanation of handling options.

Course Administration Details: Each course will be presented on a private Facebook page where workers and auditors will be able to view all videos, questions/answers and discussions. Working spot participants will post video of their training sessions and receive feedback to improve performance.  Workers can post as much video as they would like and will have the ability to view the videos and hear the feedback given to their classmates.

A new lesson for each of the Foundation Courses (F1-F5) and the Masters Handling Course will be posted to the FB page

The cost for courses are as follows:     Working: $150    Auditing: $50
