SUZANNE JAMISON (ADAIR)
I first became interested in showing way back in 1982 when I was just 14yrs old. I acquired my first Dobermann around this time, a little black/rust bitch called Tawny. Although not show quality she gave me the incentive to buy something that I could show...
I bought a black/rust male of mostly TAVEY/American bloodlines and this proved a good choice....
SKIPTALKER ZARONO made his debut at the NI DOBE CLUB CHAMP SHOW 1983 and qualified for Crufts 1st time. Needless to say I was on cloud nine. He was only lightly shown due to the fact that I was too young to drive and had to take trains and buses to the shows but nethertheless he won many many BEST OF BREEDS and always in good company.
Around the mid 80s I decided I liked the look of the Miniature Smooth Dachshund but at that time they were very thin on the ground so I put that thought on hold for the time being.
Instead I went into show partnership with a friend of mine , Ellen Sterrett and we acquired a Standard Long Haired female of Swansford/Abitibi breeding.
Flurry ( Shellybrooke Astral Azure) held her own at the shows but did not prove to be a top winner.
I decided that I would concentrate on the Dobes. I had my first judging appointment in 1991.
I opened a grooming parlour around the early 90s called KANINE KLASSIQUE so dog showing had to take a back seat for now.
It took a few years to get the business established and by now I was starting to think it was time to get back into the showring.
Through the grooming business I became friends with one of my customers...Martin McDonnell.
Martin had mentioned that he liked Dachshunds and that he was looking for a puppy. I put him in touch with a kennel whose dogs I had admired and he bought a shaded red Mini Longhaired dog puppy from them.
WALPINES WILLHEWIZ.
When I first saw this dog I advised Martin to show him as I thought he had much promise. Martin asked me to handle him and that was how our show partnership came about.
I then purchased a Mini Smooth Bitch who didnt work our for the ring so after much thought I went off to England and purchased a lovely bitch from the BARISSE KENNELS in Cambridgeshire. I will be forever grateful to Ann Shelton for letting me have such a lovely bitch.
From a friendship a show partnership evolved and we decided to register our joint Kennel Name SMARTDAC.
MARTIN McDONNELL
I always loved dogs but had never really though about showing them.
I became friends with Suzanne through her grooming business and had asked her if she knew of anyone who had Dachshund puppies. She put me in touch with the WALPINES KENNELS and I bought a male pup from them. As soon as Suzanne saw him she said he should be shown. I hadnt really thought about it but thought why not, just as long as she handled him.
We had a lot of fun at the shows and Suzanne decided that I should learn to handle my own dogs so the training began.
It was very nerve wrecking in the beginning but I was soon hooked.
I decided that I would buy another Daxi for the showring and purchased a little Black/tan bitch from the LARKHUND KENNELS in Newry- LARKHUND EYE CONNECTION... This one I handled myself .
We decided to form a show partnership and registered our Kennel Name... SMARTDAC.
OUR KENNEL NAME WAS CHOSEN FOR THE FOLLOWING REASON
S FOR SUZANNE
MART FOR MARTIN
AND DAC FOR THE DACHSHUNDS
TOGETHER IT SPELLS SMARTDAC...
OUR DOGS
WE EXHIBIT BOTH MINI SMOOTH AND MINI LONG HAIRED DACHSHUNDS.
ALL OUR DOGS ARE DNA TESTED FOR P.R.A BY THE ANIMAL HEALTH TRUST.
PUPPIES
WE SOMETIMES HAVE PUPPIES AVAILABLE TO SELECT HOMES. ALL OUR PROSPECTIVE OWNERS ARE CAREFULLY VETTED AS TO WHETHER THEY ARE SUITABLE TO OWNING ONE OF OUR DOGS.
ALL OUR PUPPIES HAVE ENDORSEMENTS PLACED ON THEIR REGISTRATION PAPERS. THESE ENDORSEMENTS WILL BE LIFTED BY US SUBJECT TO THE OWNER HAVING THE DOG DNA TESTED FOR P.R.A.
HOWEVER NO ENDORSEMENT WILL BE LIFTED UNTILL THE DOG REACHES THE AGE OF 18 MONTHS.
