Today we have said a fond farewell to Countess Kittykat - Eileen Scheepstra - who, with her husband Hans, their two Ragdoll cats and a little Doggie, have left Lakeland View to set up a new home in Lancashire. We wish them all the best in health and happiness in the future.

19 of our Ladies got together for a Handbag Party hosted by Princess Royal Chocoholic (Val Rider) at her home. Despite the very wet and windy evening, all arrived resplendent in their red hats or fascinators. The handbags were supplied by John from C.L. Leathers, Roper Street, Whitehaven, who brought along a nice selection of all types of handbags and evening bags. Quite a few sales were made, and he left quite happy knowing that he now had far more publicity for his little shop. There is something about Red Hats and Red Wine going together very well. A lovely evening was had by all.

Together with some more of the ladies from the West Cumbria Chapter, we again met up at the "Good Companions" (We are so lucky to have such a nice meeting place within walking distance of home) This time it was for a taster session of Tai Chi under the guidance of Ros Smith from Cockermouth. Ros explained the basics of this ancient Chinese meditation and exercise, and we all had a try to copy her instructions. It is not so easy to maintain the postures as it looks, but we all did fairly well. Ros specialises in Tai Chi for those suffering from joint problems and arthritis and it was generally felt that further sessions would be of great benefit. Not sure if the Chinese would have had tea and cream cakes after a session but we did and enjoyed it very much!

Following on from the wonderful meeting with the PALS, Pauline was now invited to spend the evening with Queen Elissa, Elissa Hoyt, and The Red Hatters of the Vegas Hotties at the fabulous Bahama Breeze Restaurant. Again the reception was delightful, full of friendliness and the USA Hatters really show genuine warmth to their UK counterparts. Elissa is a very good artist, makes a lot of her own clothes and some wonderful hats; a truly talented lady. The food was superb and the company was equally so. Gifts were again exchanged and a lovely time was had by all. Another evening when Pauline made some lovely new Red Hat friends and we promise that if ever any of the US ladies visit us, we will show them the same friendship and hospitality. Mike presented the ladies with a 'squishy ball'. For hilarious videos of this and other nice pics, click on the link below. http://www.artist.elissahoyt.com

Queen PaulineTripalot tripped off on her holidays to Las Vegas. She had been invited by Queen Suezq, Emma Sue Clark, and the ladies of the Las Vegas PALS (Purple and Lavender Sisters) to a Buffet Evening at the Orleans Hotel. Their hospitality was wonderful, full of genuine friendliness and curiousity to meet a Queen from England. Many gifts were exchanged - the present from Pauline of a large box of After Eight Mints went down exceptionally well. Emma Sue in particular was lovely - she took time off work to show Pauline (and her husband Mike) some of the lesser known sights in Vegas, including a drive out to the Hoover Dam. They went out for an all American Buffet Breakfast, lunch, a visit to her own house and took in two shows. She did everything to ensure Pauline's holiday was a memorable one - and she truly succeeded. Many new friends were made this evening and their hospitality will not be forgotten.

Another afternoon tea session at the "Good Companions". This time we were joined by some of the ladies from the only other local Red Hat Chapter, the very elegant 'Purple and Rouge Belles' of West Cumbria. After introductions all round, we all made some new friends and plans are well in hand for future joint events.

Despite initial reservations, but due to popular demand, it was decided to hold an Anne Summers party at the Queen's Residence. 17 ladies attended, some of whom had never been this type of party before. Most ladies agreed that this was the best party and the most fun and laughter they had experienced in many years and the Organiser could not believe how well it had gone. Despite the ages of our ladies, she did well on sales of items (sold anonymously of course, so who knows what was bought!) Ladies were complaining the next morning of sore throats, aching ribs and face muscles brought on by the merryment the previous evening. A must for a similar event in about 12 months time (or when the batteries run out, if sooner!) There were photographs taken at the Party but they are certainly not suitable for general release

Our first meeting and get-together at "The Good Companions" Restaurant. Over 20 ladies attended. Mr.Singleton was gob-smacked when we all arrived unannounced in our Red Hats but soon got over the shock and his staff supplied us with copious amounts of tea and coffee and a nice selection of home made cakes. We voted on the appointments of our various Officials and discussed further possible events. All in all, a lovely afternoon out, with hopefully plenty more to come in the future.
