CT Keeper!!!

Congratulations to Jan Masica and CT Keeper on completing their VST track in 12 minutes and obtaining their Champion Tracker title!!  WAHOO!!  A CT is not an easy title to obtain.  Only 5% of dogs pass that VST, which is tracking on concrete, asphalt, and grass.  I was there to watch Abbi's daughter complete that track in 12 minutes and it was breathtaking.  The crowd was estactic for Jan & Keeper and Jan was so happy.

 Congratulations to Jan and

Bonny and Pam passed TWO Master tests here in Michigan this past weekend!

Jan & Keeper passed her Master test for her 11th MH pass and did a fine
job of it too.

Donna Anderson & Jamie finished their MXJ!! I know they've worked really
hard on becoming a team, as Jamie is so fast.

Donna Schmidt and Jade showed four days at an agility trial and got FOUR
QQ's!!! Wow!!
Jade also passed her hips with a Good & normal elbows! Wahoo!

Sheri & Luke tried dock diving, along with Sandy and Jig and they all did
really well.

Busy weekend!

Kerri, Chime, Diamond

A big WAHOO to all three of my young girls for finishing their SHR (Started Hunting Retriever) titles this weekend!!!  Diamond and Chime did it in four straight and Kerri needed that fifth one.
I am so proud of my girls for loving the retrieving game and having fun with me.

Luk passed his Senior test today with flying
colors and is now a Senior Hunter!!
(Topmast Karluk's North Pole Voyage
SH CGC
).

We are so proud of these guys. Stephanie is a Novice A handler and this
field handling thing is all brand new to her. She and her pro trainer
Mike, have done a wonderful training Luk to his potential and showing
that beauty, brains, and field ability can go together. And this love of
field for Steph all started with the Carol Cassity seminar (thanks Gayle
and Carol).

Steph is driving back home to Florida from GA, so I have permission to
brag for her.
Luk's marking is fantastic, just like his momma's.

It's nice to know that breeding choices for the risk we take breeding to
a conformation dog that has no performance titles has paid off. The
Traveling litter is really out there showing everybody that the
combination worked!
Thanks Abbi and Collin!

Now on to Master for Steph and Luk!

Momma Abbi went out on Sunday to her first NADAC show in 5 years and took First in 20+ Regular to finish her Elite Standard title and First in Open Tunnelers and Novice Weavers.  Nothing slowing this 9 y.o. down!

Kerri competed in her first NADAC trial and took 1st in Novice Standard, 2nd in Novice Tunnelers, and 4th in Novice Weavers.

Her sister Keeper (Gaylan's Lucky Four Leaf Clover
RN TDX AX AXJ XF JH WCX
    CL1-F CGC)
(Masica) also went for her first NADAC trial and took 1st in Novice Jumpers.

    Aug 15, 2010

Abbi, Kerri, Karli, and Keagan all went Ultimate Air Dog Dock diving and all made it into the finals.  Karli took 1st in the Junior jump division, with Momma Abbi right behind her for 2nd place, and Keagan right behind his Aunt Abbi.  Kerri took 4th in the Novice jump division finals, but she hasn't quite got the hang of jumping off the dock, instead of just dropping off

I don't get to brag often on Chime lately, as she's had some problems with her weave poles.  But this weekend, she managed to do all 12 weavepoles in four classes!  And got her 2nd AXJ Q with a first place.

We had a great time at the agility trial.  It was a mini-family reunion.  Abbi was there with a bunch of her kids.  Kerri and Chime, Jan was there with Keeper, Jo and Anne were there with Hayden and Bryce, and Myra was there with Karli.  She also had Keagan with her, and Deb Stoll was there with Keagan's mom EmmyLou (Chime's half-sister) and Keagan's sister Ruby and EmmyLou's latest pup Cobi (who's cute as a button at 14 weeks and was the star of the show).  We kept hearing that we had a "gaggle of goldens" there!  :-)

Myra got her first AKC Q's with Keagan in BOTH Novice A Standard and JWW, with two First Places!!  WAHOO!

Abbi Q'd in Exc B JWW for more MACH points.

Kerri and Keeper had some really great runs, but just missed their Q's by little pieces.  Next time!
Keeper did get two EXC B FAST Q's this weekend though.  She's such a speed demon and she's really good at FAST!

    Master Hunter pass
Shiloh , Gaylan's Drummer Boy CD MH MX MXJ RE WCX CCA VCX, (Linda Lowy), passed his second Master Hunter test this spring and did a great job of it too!  I was able to watch him at the hunt test in Michigan for the first time.  I had to stay hidden, so he didn't see me until he was all done, but he was very happy to see his Grandma Pat after he did his fantastic work!  What a thrill it was to watch him do his work beautifully and with great skill!

Juice  Gaylan's Juice Harp SH MX AXJ XF WCX PDII (Paula Orcutt) placed First in Novice Preferred FAST his first time out this year, after being sidelined with a shoulder injury last January.  He maintained his 2on/2off contacts beautifully!  WAHOO!  It's nice to have him back running and I know Paula is thrilled too!  Now back to Excellent next weekend.

NEW TRACKING DOG EXCELLENT! Keeper, Gaylan's Lucky Four Leaf Clover RN TDX JH AX AXJ XF WC CL1-F CGC (Jan Masica) passed the AKC Tracking Dog Excellent on her first attempt. She finished the 800+ yards in 13 minutes with Jan in hot pursuit.
She was flying down the track as only Keeper can do!  I'm so thrilled that Grandma Pat was there to see it.

NEW USDAA PERFORMANCE I SNOOKER!  Kerri, Gaylan's Kerri of the Emerald Isle NA PK1 CL1-H CL1-S CL1-H CGC (Pat & Tom) qualified in P1 Snooker for a 1st place and to finish her P1 Snooker title.  She also qualified with Myra's Keagan in P1 Pairs for 2nd place.  Myra has Karli, from the Traveling litter too.

    April 24/25, 2010

We were back doing AKC agility this weekend, for the first time this season. Wasn't too bad a weekend.

Both Kerri and Chime did 12 poles successfully, so that's a great
    improvement!
Chime Q'd in Open Standard, for 2nd place, finishing her OA title. She
also Q'd in Exc A JWW for her first Exc A Jumpers leg with a 1st Place.

Kerri Q'd in Novice JWW with a 2nd place for her first NAJ leg. She had
    some close runs
in Open Standard, finishing her 12 poles successfully, but no Q's. She
had a little trouble focusing in Standard today after Deb, who was
holding Chime for me, as I ran both girls very close together, had to
leave to gate the other ring. Kerri caught sight of Deb leaving with
Chime and it was all over. She couldn't stand it because Deb was taking
her Chime! Once I got her running with me, she did better though. But
she does love her big sister!

Abbi Q'd in Exc B JWW for more MACH points, just missing 4th place by
0.3 seconds. Not bad for an almost 9 y.o. dog and not having run her in
while. She just missed her Q in Exc B standard, because her mom called
her name over the bar while turning and the ole' tail brought the bar
    down....darn it!

Keeper, Gaylan's Lucky Four Leaf Clover RN TD AX AXJ XF JH WC CL1-F CGC, completed her AXJ Friday April 23, with a blazing run and 1st place.  She also Q'd in Exc B Standard with another fast run.  That's a QQ, but it doesn't count because she was just finishing her Exc A title.  NEXT TIME IT WILL!!!

Then we were supposed to show in Rally this weekend, but my check got lost in the mail and my entry didn't make it for Kerri and Chime.  But Kerri went along for fun and did manage to stay calm enough for a CGC pass!  My little girl is growing up and settling down

Last weekend, Keeper got 2 Novice Fast legs(First and Second place), her first Open Std leg with a third place (after Jan made her repeat her weaves by mistake when Keeper did them right the first time) and her second Open JWW leg with a first place.

    Last weekend,
Jig had another great NADAC weekend and went 7 out 12 and earned his Outstanding Novice Tunnelers
title (O-TN-N).  He was was the HIT Novice dog!

This weekend Jig did AKC and came home with two titles and three 1st place ribbons.  Jig got his 3rd FAST leg today for his Novice FAST title (NF) and
Q'd in both of his Standard runs to finish his Novice Agility title (NA).

Momma Abbi had fun in agility this weekend too.  She came home with two Q's in Exc B Standard for 4th place and more MACH points.

    Congratulations to everybody!

Congratulations to Jan and Irish pup Keeper on their two Q's in Novice JWW and Standard with two first places and finishing their NAJ today .  This was after getting their second Q in JWW yesterday.  That girl is turning out to be all that Jan hoped she would be!  And what great training she's had.

And not to be outdone was Keeper's brother Jig last weekend, getting two Novice FAST Q's with a 1st and 4th place, and getting his first AKC Novice Standard Q with a 1st place.

KEEPER HAS HER FIRST AGILITY TITLE!!!

    Jan 3, 2009

Some of the Midwest Golden group went to a CPE trial today and had some good fun.

There were four of Abbi's babies in the 20" Level 1 & 2 Class at the CPE trial today. We were getting ribbed that it was a golden reunion specialty. Bryce and Chime were in Level 2. Keeper and Kerri were in Level 1 and their first trial ever. I had just entered my two (Chime and Kerri) in Snooker and Jumpers in the afternoon, so can only report on those classes. But ALL four of the Abbi pups Q'd in their two classes, jockeying back and forth for first and second places. And I have to say that all four were very fast!

Jan had talked me into entering Kerri, so we could see where Keeper and Kerri were in their training. I was a little reluctant, as I'm not near as far as dedicated Jan is in her training. I know Keeper Q'd in 4 of her runs.  This gives Keeper her FIRST EVER AGILITY TITLE!!!  CPE Level 1 Fun = CL1-F (Jumpers and Fullhouse Q's got her the title).  WAHOO!!

Bryce also Q'd in one of his other classes. He always gets gasps of admiration when he runs because of his speed :-) Jo has become such a good handler for this very fast boy and he really knows how to run for her when he knows where he's going!

Watch out for Keeper!! I can see that MACH in her future, for sure!!!

Not bad for the two baby dogs who aren't quite 18 months old yet!

Momma Abbi stayed home and was proud of them from a distance. She's feeling very pregnant all of a sudden :-) Just over three weeks to go!

And I heard Abbi's other son, Juice, got a MXJ leg today with a first place!!!

What a day for Abbi's babies!

Congratulations to Bryce and his handler Jo for obtaining his first AKC title in agility, finishing his Novice Agility Jumpers title with three first places!!
This from a puppy who was "just going to be a pet" and hang out at Jo's practice all day.  Bryce let Jo and Anne know otherwise!  I was very proud when I heard the audiance gasp "look at that golden go" when Bryce was doing his runs.  Just like his momma Abbi.

And what a great weekend it was to run Bryce's brother Shiloh for his owner Linda Lowy.  Linda drove up from Ohio and I got to run this very special boy for her, getting the two MX legs he needed to finish his agility Master Excellent title. He also got a QQ for his 7th double Q towards his MACH.
What a year Shiloh has had!  He spent all this year doing hunt tests, getting his Senior title this spring, then getting his Master Hunter title this fall.  Then he came north to see Tom and I this weekend and ran in agility after a 10 month layoff from it.  And he ran for me!  What a well trained dog he is too.  Linda has done a great job training him.  He knows all kinds of moves that I can't seem to get my girls to do.

Congratulations to the Music brothers this weekend for a fantastic weekend.  Momma Abbi is thrilled with her two Midwest Gaylan's boys!

We also want to send a big YAHOO to their brother Juice for getting an MX leg and an Excellent Fast leg at the Hudson Valley GRC agility trial last week!  Juice also took a lot of time off from agility this summer to do field training and get his Senior Hunter title.  Sounds like he's back in great form for the agility ring!  Congratulations Paula!

Momma Abbi managed to get a Q and 3rd place in Excellent standard for 17 more MACH points.

And Chime's brother Shiloh qualified in Excellent B JWW for more MACH points for him too.

There's no date on this news update, because it's taken me awhile to write this.  We lost our beloved Piper November 8, two weeks short of her 11th birthday, suddenly from hemangiosarcoma.  This awful cancer has developed in the last fifteen years or so in goldens and is sudden and deadly.
Piper was hunting just a week before she died.  That's her and Chime, with Tom and their prizes of pheasants, in the picture.  One week later, she was gone.  She was very healthy right up until the end, for which we are thankful.
Piper was such a sweet and wonderful golden who loved life so much.  She never met anybody she didn't love.  We miss her so much.

The Puppies are here!!!  Abbi was perfect.  Came in season on her scheduled day, bred on the scheduled day off for me from work, delivered on her delivery date (again, my scheduled days off) and had the perfect size litter of more boys than girls, just like everybody requested, and delivered in daylight in the hours I had predicted (which was 10am-2pm).  Gayle, Abbi's breeder, was here to help with the whelping.  Thank goodness.  All went well, but having the seasoned hands here was a big relief for us. Una, Abbi's half-sister, who is here with Abbi's breeder and who will be heading for Chicago to be bred, held off being ready for breeding until Sunday/Monday.  So couldn't ask for any better timing than that.
Abbi's doing great.  Hasn't quite figured out the cleaning of the poop thing yet, but she's coming along.  Tired, but happy.  Will send more pics.
The puppies are doing great.  Just what we wanted, six boys, three girls.  Perfect for what eveybody wants.
You'll be getting lots of pictures, believe me.
Boys are Misters Green, Purple, Dark Blue (Navy), Light Blue, Yellow, and White.
Girls are Ms Creamsicle, Ms Raspberry, Ms Rainbow.
Everything went perfect.  Nine puppies in 3 hours.  Not bad.  She only cried (really loud three times) with the first one.  Well, maybe screamed would be a better word.  But don't tell her I told on her.  Other than that, she was a trooper.
I'll be home all weekend.  Missing my own club's agility trial.
See puppy pictures on their picture page, called Abbi & Canyon's babies.

Let me tell you about my trip to Chicago.
Part of it was good and some of it had a few problems.
We left Wed a.m. and arrived in the afternoon.  It's a time change in Chicago area, so we gained an hour...that was nice.  Rose Ann (owner of Canyon) was working, so she took the dogs to work with her and then stopped by the hotel that evening about 5:30pm.  We let the two lovebirds play together on the hotel grounds, but it wasn't happening.  Lots of foreplay, but I think she wasn't quite ready.
We got together again the next evening.  After some playing around, lots of foreplay, and lots of hussy behavior, they had a tie.  Abbi cried as I held her still....and cried some more. Then I cried.  Lots of tears.  Then after the tie was over, everybody danced and played...at least Abbi did.  Canyon just wanted to make sure  all parts were back in place
We then went out to dinner and let the dogs rest in their own vehicles.
We skipped the next day.  So on Saturday, after Rose Ann was done with a little OT at work, we got together again.   Again, lots of foreplay, a LOT of real hussy behavior on Abbi's part, lots of humping on Canyon's part, just no tie.  We let them rest and went out to dinner again, we definitely needed some alcohol for us!  We tried again at Rose Ann's house after dinner.  Same thing, just no tie.  Lots of calls to Gayle by me and to the Miner's by Rose Ann.
Gave it a rest.  Tried again Sunday morning.  Repeat of the night before.  Both parties very willing, just not enough tight connection.
We then went to breakfast.  Rose Ann made some phone calls.  A friend reminded her about the repro vet that was open on Sundays with the regular clinic on the north side of Chicago.  Loaded them up and drove 45 minutes to the vets office.  Amazing these things always seem to happen on Sundays, isn't it?????
After explanation of the problem, both dogs went into see the vet. Abbi stood still and waived her tush, Canyon got a whiff of her, the vet did the deed to Canyon, collected the semen and did an A.I. to Abbi.   Both dogs looked like they weren't having near as much fun as they'd been having the last three days.  But it was done.  Vet checked both Canyon's sperm, which looked good, and Abbi's inner parts, which also looked good.   Unsure why it didn't happen naturally the 2nd time, but Abbi always seems to do things the hard way and the more expensive way.... the $145 way.
Both of us loaded up, and said our goodbyes.  I headed back to Michigan, Rose Ann and Canyon headed to Texas for their winter training...we had already held them up for two days.
One good tie, one AI.   We're hoping for lots of puppies.  We will know more end of March, when we run the pregnancy test and have her palpated.
It was a lot of fun and a lot of tension.  Let's hope it works!

Stud fee down payment $200, Motel $200, Gas $60, AI $145, ....   lots of puppies....priceless!!!
