On Sunday, despite some absences due to illness, North Ceredigion put on a great effort against a strong Pembrokeshire team at Blaendolau.
In the first set of games North Ceredigion lost 2-1 to Pembrokeshire A and the game against the B team ended all square 0-0. North Ceredigion did have their chances to score but some good saves and a goal line clearance denied the local lads.
In the second set of games North Ceredigion pulled off a great win against the A team with 2 goals in the last 3 minutes to overturn a deficit to win 3-2. The game started badly with the Pembrokeshire A team capitalising on an early break to score within the second minute. North Ceredigion fought back levelling to go into half time 1-1. A deflection meant that Pembrokeshire beat the goalkeeper for a second time to lead again early in the second half. Some great saves however saw the North Ceredigion still only one down with 5 mins to play. The rest is history as two great goals saw the home win 3-2.
Unfortunately the other side went down 4-0. Next up is Swansea in November.
On Sunday 4th October the North Ceredigion squad travelled to Afan Nedd for their first game of this year’s competition returning home with the full compliment of points available by winning all 4 games played by an aggregate score of 31-7.
Both North Ceredigion sides played excellent attractive football in their games with goals a plenty and also of high quality. Afan Nedd should also be praised as they continued to try and play neat attractive football under such difficult circumstances.
All players were a credit to the Aber Junior Football League and should be proud of their achievement, what was also pleasing was that the squads were made up of players from 7 different sides with all players being given the same amount of opportunities as each other.
Every year the Junior League enter the Tom Yeoman tournament, which is the only nationwide U11 competition in Wales. The competition has been run for almost 55 years and had involved some of the best footballers to come out of Wales.
The Junior League enters the competition as North Ceredigion and the squad allows great opportunities for players to enjoy football against other counties or football regions in Wales.
This year North Ceredigion have been drawn in the South Wales Group 2 with teams from Afan Nedd, Pembrokeshire and Swansea.
The North Ceredigion teams are led by lead coach Andy Roberts (Llanilar FC).
On Sunday the squad travelled for their opening round of games to Afan Nedd. A successful trip for all involved as the teams came away with 4 wins in the 4 matches played. A full report will appear here shortly.
