At Blaendolau Penparcau Devils leapt passed Aber Aces and Swans into the U13 League top spot as they beat Caron Lions 9-1. The match of the morning saw Aber Aces take on Swans. In the U13 League Penparcau Devils, Aber Aces and Swans have got off to a flying start each winning their 2 opening matches. Penparcau Devils proved too slippery for Llanilar Pythons last week, before seeing off another Llanilar side, Llanilar Warriors 5-1 this week. Aber Aces trumped Caron Lions last week, before seeing off Penrhyncoch this week with a 7-0 win. Last week Penrhyncoch beat Padarn 1-0 and Talybont ran out 2-0 winners against Llanilar. This weekend it was Padarn’s turn to win beating Talybont 3-1 and Penparcau Demons got their season going with a 1-0 win over Llanilar.

Penllwyn too showed signs that they may need to move up a league, scoring regularly to beat Teirw Talybont 14-0, Waun Wanderers beat Ser Aur 10-0 (in a more even game than the scoreline suggests) and it was full marks to Pont Teifi as they beat a weakened Penuwch Owls 10-0 too. Bois Y Graig and Machynlleth C fought out a closer game with the Borth team coming out on top 4-2.
In the U11 3rd and 4th Divisions many players were starting their first season in the Junior League. Thanks to Aberystwyth Town FC, Park Avenue provided the ideal setting for the Junior League’s Cup Finals Day on May 2nd. For most it was the first time they will have played at the ground but hopefully not the last as the Junior League provides an increasingly important pathway to senior football in the area with a number of recent ‘graduates’ of the Junior League having represented Aberystwyth Town and other senior clubs this season.
On the day the immaculate Park Avenue turf hosted six finals, all closely contested and enjoyed by a large crowd of around 1000 people that turned up throughout the day.
The first final saw Teriyrs Talybont go head to head with Ystwyth Dragons in the U11 3rd Division Final. Despite both teams enjoying the space to play attractive football neither could score in normal time. Extra time followed, but with chances missed at each end the game went to penalties. Teriyrs held their nerve better to win 3-1.
Next up saw Penllwyn meet Penrhyncoch in the U11 2nd Division Final. Penrhyncoch came out of the blocks faster than an Olympic sprinter and their pace soon paid off as they scored quickly to go 2-0 up by half time. Penllwyn fought back well in the second half but Penrhyncoch remained in control winning 2-0.
The U11 1st Division Final saw Llanrhystud Dolphins play Ystwyth Juniors. Both competed well and with some good keeping the game remained 0-0 at full time and despite further chances the game ended 0-0 after extra time. Llanrhystud Dolphins faired better in the penalty shoot out that followed to go on to lift the cup winning 3-1.
The eagerly awaited U11 Premier Division Final followed where Aber United took on Penparcau Devils. Both teams lived up to their reputation of playing attractive football and fought hard throughout. Aber United scored first before Penparcau Devils drew level. Further chances were created at both ends but again some great saves prevented more goals as the game ended 1-1. After a goal less period of extra time once again penalties were needed to find a winner and the Aber United took their chances well to win the shoot out 2-0.
At the presentations that followed in addition to medals for the winners and runners up Dafydd Carruthers of Ystwyth Rovers was awarded the Urien Williams Memorial Trophy for the U11 Player of the Season.
The U13 League Cup Final kicked off the afternoon games. With game being played on the full length of the Town pitch this allowed for a fast flowing game between finalists Llanilar Juniors and Bow Street Magpies. Bow Street Magpies took their chances well and were 2-0 up at half time. Llanilar Juniors did pull one back but the Magpies went on to win 4-1. Rhydian Davies with 2 goals was named Man of the Match and with it was awarded the Paul Truckle Cup.
At the U13 presentations Bow Street Magpies collected the League trophy and the League Shield in addition to the Cup, Aber Aces collected the League Plate in their first season, and Shaun Dryburgh of Bow Street Juniors was named U13 Player of the Season.
The day was wrapped up by the U15 League Final between Penparcau Demons and Teigars Talybont and what a game it was. Both played some great football and it was thanks to some good defensive play and the goal keepers that the game remained goal less for much of the game. The deadlock was broken though with a neat Teigars move which was brilliantly finished off to take a 1-0 lead with about 10 minutes to go. Penparcau Demons turned up the heat but looked to have run out of time but with the timing of Iniesta’s goal for Barcelona against Chelsea, they levelled deep into stoppage time. Penalties followed extra time and Teigars again looked likely winners but missed the last kick. More clinical finishing in the sudden death penalty stage saw Demons through as 4-3 winners. Adam Hopley, the Talybont keeper, however gained some consolation being named Man of the Match and was awarded the Mark ‘Smiley’ Evans Memorial Cup.
At the U15 presentations Penparcau Demons also collected the League trophy in addition to the Cup. 2 players were jointly presented with U15 Player of the Season award, Coner Berner (Bow Street Tornados) and Morgan Roberts-Young (Llanilar).
After 15 hard fought games Penparcau Demons finally clinched the U15 League title with a good 3-1 win over Llanilar Juniors. Demons, who remain undefeated since the start of the season, looked to be easing to the title when they struck 3 times in the first half but a defiant Llanilar Juniors side weren’t so accommodating. 10 minutes into the second half the Juniors pulled a goal back and threatened on several other occasions but the Demons remained strong and in the end were worthy winners of this game and the league title.
Talybont Teigars who had pushed the Demons hard throughout the season had earlier succumbed to another excellent Padarn performance who came out on top 1-
0 in
another close game. The win for Padarn guarantees them 3rd place in the league behind the Teigars.
In other games played Bow Street Tornados came back from being 1-0 down at half time against Llanilar to draw 1-1 whilst Bow Street Magpies put in a great performance to beat Talybont Taranau 7-0. There was some consolation for the boys from Talybont as they represented the league as ball boys and flag bearers at the

international on Saturday afternoon.
At U13 level, the season ended with 1st playing 2nd in both the Shield and Plate competitions for title honours.
In the Shield Bow Street Magpies took on the younger Swans team, who had also pushed them hard for the league title. With both sides competing well he game ended in a 0-0 stalemate leaving Bow Street Magpies to pick up another trophy on goal difference.
In the Plate Competition Aber Aces and Llanilar Warriors fought it out but with some great finishing Aber Aces went on to lift the trophy with a 3-0 win.
At the U11 level a number of games were played during the week as many local players went down to Cardiff to watch their senior idols but nevertheless the games were a fitting end to the main part of the season.
In the 1st Division Dolphins pulled off a 1-0 win over Bow Street Juniors, Penuwch Owls beat Machynlleth B 3-1, Aber Stars beat Talybont 5-1 and Celtiaid finished their season with a 2-1 win over Aber Strikers.

Park Avenue
, home of Aberystwyth FC, on the 2nd May. Once again its been a triumph for the efforts of all local managers and the on going improvement and participation of local players from across the north of the County.

Congratulations to all teams that played on the day, all of whom played the game in the right spirit, and well done to those who now move on the Finals to be held at AberystwythTown’s Park Avenue pitch in April.

In the U15 League Penparcau Demons showed why they are favourites to lift this year’s title with a good win over current league leaders Talybont Teigars. Demons, who still have 100% record have played fewer games than their title rivals, struck twice midway through the first half and looked like cruising to victory. Teigars responded well to their predicament, fought back and levelled the score to 2-2 just before the half time break. A tense second half saw chances come and go, with both sides denied by the post and cross bar and opposing keepers but with 10 minutes to go the Demons broke through to go 3-2 up. After defeating last years champions Wrexham Schools in their last set of fixtures. North Ceredigion travelled to Colwyn Bay full of confidence to face Conwy Schools in their next set of Welsh Schools Football Association Tom Yeoman U11 Tournament fixtures. A small squad of the most talented players from the Aberystwyth Junior League in years 5 and 6 primary school where selected to represent the county in the prestigious tournament.
In wet, windy and awful playing conditions, in what can only be described as a "swimming pool" of a pitch, both teams performed miracles and played football to a very high standard.
The younger North Ceredigion Seagulls showed much class in their set of of matches. In the 1st match North Ceredigion will feel it was points dropped as they dominated the match. The team peppered the Conwy goal with shot after shot. Joshua Abbott and Jack Rimmer going the closest in the 1st half. With the potential and reputation growing of Mathew Jones, Joshua Abbott, Jack Rimmer, and Mathew Baker, the quartet took the game to Conwy and Joshua Abbott produced a moment of brilliance when he beat 3 players to deliver a pin point cross for the deadly Mathew Jones to poke home. The game was crying out for a predator of a finisher but with moments left a lapse in the visiting defence let in Conwy to tie the match 1,1 . In the 2nd match again North Ceredigion dominated but the older and more physical Conwy side took to the awful conditions better when they defeated the young seagulls 2,0. Much praise must be given to Steffan Pryderth and Rhys Stevens who performed very well in defence. With top performances from Joshua Abbott, Mathew Jones and Mathew Baker The older North Ceredigion Greens were unlucky to lose their matches but poor finishing and the failure to deal with the awful conditions cost them dear. In the 1st match, North Ceredigion started brightly and were full of confidence. Chances fell to Liam Jaques and Iwan Davies and Dafydd Carruthers was again in superb form in midfield but for all their hard work the hosts took to the poor conditions better to snatch a 3,0 victory. In the second match the fast improving Liam Lewis played very well in a tight match making good tackles and passes. Brandon Kent and Ethan Kent went close for the visitors but the conditions played a key factor as they again went down 3,0 With better weather and playing conditions everyone said the scorelines would of been different as the hosts congratulated North Ceredigion on playing better quality passing football. Head Coach Peter Griffiths said " The Squad is making giant strides in both their development and ability. The matches are benefiting all players massively and they are enjoying the opportunities on offer. We have now played all the top sides in our section and more than held our own. Even defeating last years Tom Yeoman U11 champions Wrexham Schools. With the squad mainly 9yrs old the future looks promising and bright. Special thanks must go to the parents and the special players for all there efforts. Lets hope for better playing conditions when we host Bangor Schools in Aberystwyth
After a couple of weeks out due to rain the Aberystwyth and District Junior League programme resumed last Saturday. In most cases teams siezed the opportunity to get a game in before the Christmas break and what a great day of football they all had.
In the U15 League Talybont Teigars made it a magnificant seven to be the Christmas Number 1 as they ended the first half of the season with a 100% record to top the U15 League table. The match was no easy run out for the boys though as Bow Street Magpies put in a great effort, but with better finishing it was Talybont Teigars who ended the game with a well earned 4-0 victory. Bow Street Tornados faired better with a 2-0 win over Padarn, and Llanilar Juniors beat Talybont Taranau 8-1. Penparcau Demons who sat out the weekend, are also unbeaten though, and look well placed to run Teigars hard for league honours in 2009.
In the U13 League Bow Street Magpies are league leaders, with a 100% record. Llanilar Juniors, who beat Talybont 3-0 on Saturday, are equal on points but have played one game more. Swans are third but unfortunately had to forfeit on Saturday and Talybont are fourth. In other games played, Bow Street Juniors came out on top against Cewri with a 6-0 win and Aber Aces did well with a 2-0 win over Llanilar Warriors.
In the U11 Leagues the main game of the day saw Aber United play Ystwyth Rovers. Despite some hard tackles the teams played with excellent spirit throughout and put on a display worthy of two top performing sides at this level. With chances at both ends it was difficult to call but after 2 well taken chances towards the end of the first half Aber United took control and went on to win 2-0. It will be comfort for many to know that one lad who had to be taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg was later diagnosed with a sprained ankle.
In the U11 1st Division Talybont and Machynlleth B went into the Christmas break with an entertaining 2-2 draw, Penuwch Owls beat Ystwyth Juniors 3-0 and Aber Stars beat Bow Street Juniors 5-1.
In the U11 2nd Division there were plenty of goals as teams erred on the side of attach than defence, sometime to their cost, but to the delight of those watching. Penrhyncoch beat Waun Wanderers 5-1, Ystwyth Devils did likewise with a 5-1 win over Teirw Talybont, Penllwyn beat an improving Bois Y Graig 6-2 and Llewod Padarn ran out 11-0 winners over Bow Street Piod.
In the U11 3rd Division some tighter games saw Aber Dynamos pip Penuwch Snipes to a 3-2 win and Pont Teifi scored a late goal to ensure victory with a 2-0 win over Ystwyth Dragons. Penrhyn Red Dragons showed further imporvement with a good 5-1 over talybont Teriyrs and Ser Aur won 6-0 over Aber Celts.
With emphasis as usual on playing it was great to see every player enjoying their Saturday morning football and once again the future looks good for 2009. Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.
With the U13 and U15 league games postponed the focus was firmly back on the U11s who beat a frosty start to complete their games.
In the U11 Premier Peithoniaid started well against Aber Utd but due to some good saves by the United keeper couldnt turn early pressure into goals. They then paid the price as Aber Utd scored to take control of the game before going on to win 4-1. Machynlleth A came through a tough game against Dinas All Stars 2-1 and with good football played by both teams the game between Bow Street Magpies and Penparcau Devils ended in a 1-1 draw.
In the U11 1st Division Tregaron Lions exchanged goals with Machynlleth B before the game finished 2-2. Penuwch Owls and Talybont both won 4-1 against Bow Street Juniors and Celtiaid respectively, and Dolphins and Aber Stars both won 3-1 in their games against Aber Strikers and Ystwyth Juniors.
In the U11 2nd Division match of the day saw Penllwyn fight back from being 2-0 down at half time to win a great game 3-2 against Waun Wanderers. Other games were more one sided though as Llewod Padarn beat Teirw Talybont 9-1, Tregaron Tigers beat Bois Y Graig 8-0, Ystwyth Devils beat Bow Street Piod 7-1 and Penrhyncoch remain in form beating Machynlleth C 4-1. Despite the scorelines all sides continued to battle until the final whistle and enjoyed the football.
In the U11 3rd Division there were plenty of goals and it has been good to see these young teams improve during the first half of the season. The pick of the games saw Ystwyth Select just come out on top against a battling Aber Celts winning 5-3. Penuwch Snipes fought off Penrhyn Red Dragons winning 4-1, Pont Teifi beat Talybont Teriyrs 5-0, Ser Aur beat Bow Street Ieuenctid 8-2 and Ystwyth Dragons were on fire as they beat Aber Dynamos 8-0.
Penparcau Demons and Talybont Teigars remain the form teams in the U15 League as both won again to maintain their respective challenges for the League. Talybont Teigars came through a hard game against Bow Street Tornados with a 2-1 win to make it 6 wins out of 6 to top the table. Penparcau Demons though were on fire as they ran out 8-0 winners against Llanilar and also have an unblemished record having won 5 out of their 5 games. In the other game played Padarn put in a good performance to beat Llanilar 5-0.
In the U13 League Bow Street Magpies lead the way, maintaining their 100% record with a 2-0 win over Llanilar Warriors. Equal on points though are Llanilar Juniors who beat Bow Street Juniors 8-2. Close behind are Swans who did not play this weekend and Talybont who beat Caron Devils 3-2. Machynlleth after a slow start to the season seem to have found a rich vein of form as they won their third game of the season with a 2-0 win over Aber Aces.
In the U11 Premier League with several players involved in the Tom Yeoman matches against Wrexham Schools only one match survived and what a game it was too, as Peithoniaid and Ystwyth Rovers fought out a 1-1 draw.
In the U11 1st Division all games were typically close as there is little to choose between the 10 sides that play at this level. Celtiaid struck twice to beat Ystwyth Juniors 2-1, Aber Stars beat Aber Strikers 3-2, Tregaron Lions beat Penuwch Owls 2-0, Dolphins beat Machynlleth B 2-0, and Talybont beat Bow Street Juniors 3-1.
In the U11 2nd Division the clash of the day saw two previously unbeaten sides Penrhyncoch and Llewod Padarn go head to head. Both sides played attractive end to end football and worked hard throughout. With the game 1-1 at half time and still 1-1 with 10 minutes to go it looked like a draw before Penrhyncoch broke the Padarn defence down to score and secure a 2-1 win. In the other matches Penllwyn beat Teirw Talybont 3-1, Machynlleth C beat Ystwyth Devils 3-0, Tregaron Tigers beat Bow Street Piod 5-1 and Waun Wanderers went one better beating Bois Y Graig 6-1.
In the U11 3rd Division Ystwyth Dragons met local rivals Ystwyth Select, and having gone 3-0 up in the first half must have thought an easy win was on the cards. Ystwyth Select however had different ideas and fought back and by the end of the game were unlucky not to have forced a draw as the game ended 4-3 to the Dragons. Elsewhere Ser Aur beat Talybont Teriyrs 3-1, Penrhyn Red Dragons beat Bow Street Ieuenctid 5-0, Penuwch Snipes beat Aber Celts 6-0 and Pont Teifi beat Aber Dynamos 8-0 in a game less one-sided than the scoreline suggests.
On Saturday 8th November North Ceredigion played their next set of Welsh Schools Football Association Tom Yeoman U11 fixtures, against Porthmadog (Gwynedd schools).
Twenty of the most talented players from the Aberystwyth Junior League in Years 5 and 6 primary school were selected to represent the county in the prestigious tournament.
The younger North Ceredigion Seagulls side which had 9yr and 10yr old children participating beat a strong Porthmadog side 2-0 Mathew Jones opened the scoring volleying home from a corner in the 1st half. In the second half Mathew then set up Kieran Jay who coolly beat a defender to slot home for an excellent victory. In their second match the young Aberystwyth side lost 6-4 with Jack Rimmer 3 and Joshua Abbott 1 scoring for the hosts. This was an excellent all round performance showing the talent the Aberystwyth Junior League boasts.
The older North Ceredigion Greens side lost their two matches. The matches were extremely tight with the first match finishing 3-1 to the visitors with Liam Jaques scoring for North Ceredigion. In the second match the unfortunate North Ceredigion lost 2-1 with the scores level for much of the second half after Liam had again scored, but the visitors grabbed a cruel winner. However with better finishing, the matches could have finished in a draw. Nevertheless the team played admirably with Steffan Pryderth and debutant Liam Evans performing well.
Head Coach Peter Griffiths said “All the matches proved very beneficial and a good learning curve, some children played children nearly 2 yrs older than them showing the talent the area has. With many of the visitors players attached to Everton FC, Wrexham FC and Tranmere Rovers FC this really was an excellent performance.”
The squads now look forward to hosting Bangor schools next weekend.
Due to representative football commitments the Bow Street Magpies v Machynlleth was the star attraction as the only U11 Premier Division game to be played on Saturday. Although Magpies scored early on there was little between the two sides as both teams battled throughout. Despite chances at either end neither side was to add to that early goal as the game ended 1-0 in Magpies favour.

Twenty of the most talented players from the Aberystwyth Junior League in Years 5 and 6 primary school have been selected to represented the county in this years Tom Yeoman Shield
The Tom Yeoman Shield for Under 11’s was established in 1955. The aims of the Welsh Schools Football Association are to develop footballers and provide international football at U15 Under 16 and Under 18 ages. But also to work with the FAW and the Welsh Football Trust in the identification and development of players for national squads
Peter Griffiths has been given the responsibility in arranging coordinating and coaching the Tom Yeoman teams for the area.
Peter Griffiths said “The players will be given an opportunity to play matches throughout the season against a number of other counties to help their development. With the talent we have in this area we all hope that these players can develop and progress into the Welsh National Squads. I was lucky enough to achieve this and represent Wales at U15 U16 level and captaining the U18 side in which there is no greater honour”
Each team played 2 matches with each child given plenty of game time to develop and enjoy. The younger North Ceredigion Seagulls side which had 9yr and 10yr old children participating lost there 2 matches with Joshua Abbott being the outstanding performer for the team. Injuries to Jack Rimmer, Mathew Baker and Kieran Jay did not help there cause. But the matches proved very beneficial and a good learning curve as they played children nearly 2 yrs older than them. This will hold the children in good stead for future seasons
The older North Ceredigion Greens side also lost there two matches However with better finishing the matches could of finished in a draw. Nevertheless the team played admirably with Dafydd Carruthers, Jake Jones and Brandon Kent being the outstanding performers.
Peter added “The level of performances today was very high these matches together with the matches that some players have on offer against professional clubs with Wrexham FC Development Centre are so beneficial and will help protect and nurture each player’s special talents and ensure
that talented players are given the very best opportunities and support to reach their full potential. We look forward to the 2008/2009 season with much excitement.”
