CWFA Inter League Competition
Congratulations to all who represented the Aberystwyth Junior League on Sunday in the CWFA Inter League Competition. It was almost a clean sweep in the boys competition as the U12 and U14 teams won their competition and the U16 team missed out on their trophy gong down on penalties.
The triumphant Aberystwyth Junior League U12 side after collecting the trophy in the CWFA Inter League competition.
Finals Day - 2nd May 2009

The itinerary for the Finals Day, to be held at Aberystwyth Town FC, Park Avenue, on the 2nd May 2009 has been finalised. Players in the first two finals must be ready in the changing rooms by 9.30am. Players can warm up before hand using the Astroturf.

All U11 games are 8-a-side. The U13 and U15 games are 11-a-side. A programme will be available on the day. There will be a £2 charge for this and we encourage as many people as possible to purchase these on entry as this will make a contribution to the costs on the day (the medals alone cost £600 and with other things the day costs approx £1000). Thanks to the Aberystwyth Town FC the ground is given over to the league for free.

Presentations for the U11 Cups will be at approx 12 noon. In addition to the Cups, the Urien Williams Memorial Trophy is presented to a player in the U11 section of the league.

Presentations for the U13 and U15 Cups will follow each final. This year Cups will be presented but need to be returned to the League so that they can be displayed in the Junior League Clubhouse and hopefully at certain times in the Aberystwyth Town FC Clubhouse along with photos of the finalists. There will be medals presented to all players playing in the Finals.

In the U13 section there will also be presentations for the League competition, the Shield and Plate competitions, and the Player of the Season. The Paul Truckle Memorial Cup is presented to the player of the final.

In the U15 section there will also be presentations for the League competitions and player of the season.

Throughout the season managers in the U13 and U15 leagues submit team / score sheets, and nominate a player from the other side as the ‘player of the match’. This information is used to decide which player becomes the player of the season.

18 players in the U13 League were nominated 2 or more times as Player of the Match during the season by the opposing manager. Of these:

Dewi Thomas (Machynlleth); Luke Davies (Talybont); Harry Whalley (Cewri); Justino Josephs (Aber Aces); Shaun Dryburgh (Bow Street Juniors); and Nathan Pemberthy (Bow Street Magpies) were nominated 3 or more times. Player of season to be named at the presentations on the 2nd May 2009 Finals Day.

16 players in the U15 League were nominated 2 or more times as Player of the Match during the season by the opposing manager. Of these:

Dale Williams (Penparcau Demons); Morgan Roberts-Young (Llanilar); Bryn Oliver (Bow Street Magpies); Gethin Jones (Tregaron); Hefin Hopkins (Talybont Taranau); Connor Berner (Bow Street Tornados); and Adam Carvell (Llanilar Juniors); were nominated 3 or more times. Player of the season to be named at the presentations on the 2nd May 2009 Finals Day.

Thank you to anyone who sent in feedback on the season, there is still time for others to do so. This will be looked at prior to the AGM. There is a limit to what can be organized though as the Junior League is run solely by volunteers, but if you are willing to give up time for the benefit of the league then feel free to let me know.

A date will be set for the AGM shortly, and is likely to be in June. Further information will be circulated ahead of this meeting and other information will also be circulated about rules, codes of conduct and the likely timetable for next season shortly.

Authorities at Blaendolau and Penweddig have confirmed that all pitches are in good condition, so all games in tomorrow's cup are ON.

Managers

  • Can you make sure you are ready for each kick off time? Games will start and end with a air horn for U11 1st and 2nd Division games. There will be a minute turn around so please be ready.
  • Games are 8 a side in the U11 competitions except for games involving Aber Strikers who are likely to be only 7 tomorrow.
  • At U13 and U15 level we are hoping to have referees. Otherwise games should be refereed by the ‘home’ team. An option in the U11 compeititons is for a manager from another team to referee but this must be decided early on to avoid any delays.
  • Can managers keep scores for games in their group so we can agree the tables quickly after the mini league games end please.
  • Can any teams who won trophies last year return them tomorrow.
  • Any queries see Dilwyn at Blaendolau or me at Penweddig.

  All

  • Can people park sensibly please. At Penweddig can people use the leisure centre car park if the school car park is full. Please do not park on verges or the roundabout, these are no parking areas and we are likely to be charged for damages for people parking here.
  • At Penweddig the toilets will be open from 9am onwards for the duration of the morning.
  • Can any litter be put in the bins please?

  Aber Town v Prestatyn

  • A flyer for the AberystwythTown v Prestatyn game in the Welsh Cup has been circulated by email. All Junior League players can attend for Free.
  • I’ll have hard copy paper flyers to hand out tomorrow too.
  • The club would be grateful for support from the Junior League.

17th January 2009 - Update

Apologies to all for the late email, but I was in Aberaeron this morning.

Unfortunately games at Penweddig are OFF. I did have a call earlier and came back to Aberystwyth and visited the ground at 2pm to see whether there had been any improvements. Unfortunately the pitches are very soft (in particular itches 1,3,5 and 6) and unavailable for games tomorrow. I did contact the University re the Astroturf but that is booked from 10.30 onwards but if the forecast isn’t good will book that as a fall back for next Saturday’s games. Games would have to be shorter and at different times but it will help provide some football and keep us on track to re-arrange games and still finish by Easter.

Games at Blaendolau and Llety Parc are ON. I’ve moved the 2nd and 3rd games on pitch A in the U13 League to Llety Parc (it will be these games in future too). Parking is available at the hotel for these games.

Can you remember to text me the score, although I’ll probably be there tomorrow.

 Regards

 Russell

Russell
13th December

Games are ON at Penweddig. However, pitches are ‘borderline’ and I’ve agreed to leave a final decision until later this afternoon. if the promised rain is heavy then expected the games to be postponed.

I’m out of the office this afternoon so will send a text to all those on the managers contact list (with a mobile number) which is on our web site – www.simplesite.com

I will also send an email when I get back to my computer (around 5) and add information to the web. If anyone wants me to contact them by txt can they send me their number before 11am this morning? My mobile is 07908 796252 if you want to send me a text.

I will update on the position at Blaendolau later this morning.

Russell

6th December - All Games OFF

All games at Penweddig and Blaendolau are OFF.

FAW Appeal / CWFA Permissions

For information the Junior League recently appealed to the FAW about the Central Wales Football Associations lack of diligence in applying discretion when granting permissions for players to play in the Junior League who live outside the area.

The outcome will have implications for players that reside outside the domestic area and wish to play in the Junior League next season. In summary there are FAW rules that require players who live outside the area to obtain permission from the CWFA to play in the league. Some teams / players have sought permissions and others not. Where permissions were sought we considered that the CWFA maladministered in applying their discretion. We felt this ought to be challenged, primarily so we had clear guidance on this issue for the future given our own rules and that the decision was made without due diligence.

I received the formal notice of the outcome of the appeal on Wednesday. It is clear that other than for one child they were only allowed to play because they were allowed to play this year. It is also clear that the CWFA were severely criticized, that they need to tighten up procedures and decisions, and that from next year anyone without a permission will not be allowed to play in the league.

Costs were awarded against the CWFA.

I will be contacting the CWFA to ask them to clarify how they intend to respond to this appeal decision and ask them to provide clear guidance so everyone knows what the domestic is, what criteria they will use when making decisions, and what they expect to be submitted when applications are made.

If you have players in your teams that may be affected can I suggest you contact me and the CWFA asap.

29th November - Blaendolau OFF, Penweddig ON
Unfortunately we have received a message from the University to say the pitches are unavailable. The message said that all games, including senior local league games, were OFF so the pitches must be saturated after yesterdays rain.
Fortunately the pitches at Penweddig are fine, so all games are ON as planned.

Russell
22nd November - Games On

I’ve been in touch with Penweddig and Blaendolau and games are ON. However as Pitch 6 can’t be used as it is saturated I’ve made a few changes (see revised fixture list below).

In summary at Penweddig:

  • The 9am kick off on Pitch 6 is now a 10.30 kick off on Pitch 1 (Ser Aur v Talybont Teriyrs)
  • The 9.45 lick off on Pitch 6 remains 9.45 kick off, but will now be played on Pitch 4 (Ystwyth Dragons v Ystwyth Select)
  • In the U11 Premier due to Tom Yeomans games Aber United and Penparcau Devils are unable to play, therefore Bow Street Magpies now play Dinas All Stars
  • The 10.30 Llewod Padarn v Penrhyncoch game is now at 11.15 on Pitch 1.

 T o note:

U nfortunately Tom Yeoman games have to be played on Saturdays this year with the inevitable knock on impact on fixtures. We have approached the WSFA to play on Sundays but they have made it quite clear if other leagues insist on the Saturdays then we have no choice but to play on those days. We have approached other leagues and they will not play us on a Sunday. There are dates after Xmas that can be used to fit these games in though.

Also, the National Eisteddfod of Wales Executive Committee will also be on site at Penweddig this Saturday morning and the area in front of the school will be cordoned off.  Can you let parents know and ask them to park sensibly, preferably in the car park. If you see parents parking on verges / grass can you ask them to move.

Blaendolau

A coffee machine has been installed by the changing rooms – hot drinks are available for 50p. Can you let parents know please.

Also, on the 15th and 16th April next year Tottenham Hotspurs are holding a soccer school at Blaendolau. Further details can be obtained by using the following link, can you pass on this information please?

http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/soccerschools/roadshows.html

A note also to remind referees that the league operates a sin bin rule whereby a player can be asked to leave the field for a period of time if their conduct is questionable.

Thanks and regards, have a good day

4/10 - Blaendolau ON; Penweddig OFF

I have been in contact with the University and Penweddig regarding the pitches for tomorrow.

All games at Blaendolau are ON (i.e. U13/15s and Tom Yeoman games)

All games however at Penweddig are OFF due to the weather and poor conditions as you enter the fields.

In addition to my last email re update from the weekend can I add:

  • All children must wear shin pads during Junior League games. All managers and referees must ask a player to leave the field to put shin pads on if a player is found not to be wearing them.

  • At U13 level there is no off side rule (see rules).

  • Finally find attached some notes sent to me regarding coaching education. Feel free to attend.
23/9/08

Rules are in the process of being updated, following the AGM. For now some of the basics:

U11 level games are usually played 8 a side despite the rules listing 7 a side, the main point though is that a reduction or increase in numbers (and this goes for the U13 and U15 leagues) is that a reduction or increase should be agreed before the start of play.

U11 teams must use a size 4 ball, supplied by the ‘home’ side, U13s can use size 4 or 5, and U15s a size 15.

Home sides are meant to ref games or supply a ref (qualified or person with junior leaders award).

Games, other than where postponed due to weather (email usually circulated on Fridays), can only be re-arranged by consultation with me. These will only be granted in exceptional circumstances. Very few were allowed last year, and then only when a large number of players from one team were unavailable due to representing the league in Welsh Schools games. If games are postponed for this reason teams will need to play during the week before or shortly after the postponement. Teams that cannot raise a side will forfeit points at U13 and U15 level (score of 2-0).

U13 and U15 teams must submit a team / score sheet. This needs to be submitted within 6 days of the game, and must include an ‘opposition player of the match’ which is used to decide who should be the league player of the year. This should be submitted to me on russellhp@ceredigion.gov.uk

We have been going through the team entry forms and have taken issue with the CWFA / FAW over some player permissions. This will be subject to an appeal process and the outcome of this will be relayed in due course. All managers should be aware that any player who lives outside the domestic area needs to gain CWFA permission to play in the league. In general it is advisable that managers recruit locally to avoid problems. If permission is not granted or revoked then players will need to play in their own domestic area.

In addition I have been entering data into another website – http://www.fixtureslive.com/ which will hold information on fixtures, and at U13 and U15 level scores and league tables. Once developed this will become more interactive and clubs can have their own pages and managers will be able to text in results so that tables are updated.

For now however can all home managers text me on Saturdays (other days when games are played) the score for the game. Can you put the name of home side, followed by score, and then the away side and text to 07908 796252. If this works I will set up passwords for managers to do this directly.

On the day Dilwyn will be on hand to advise at Blaendolau and I’ll usually be at Penweddig. We will be wearing red ‘official’ Junior League jackets so that people can easily find us.

At Penweddig can managers ask parents to park sensibly, take litter with them or use the bins provided, and to stand to the side of pitches rather than behind the golas. We’d also like you to ask parents to stand on the outer sides rather than the channels between pitches 1&2 and 3&4. This would provide an area for team managers and substitutes and avoid parents getting involved ‘managing’ the team.

At Penweddig a catering van should be present during the season to provide refreshments.

At Blaendolau can managers ask parents to park sensibly and take litter home with them.

Finally if a team cannot turn up on the day please let me know. It maybe possible to set up an alternative fixture. There is nothing worse for players to turn up and find the opposition don’t!
