Albinism gathering in Australia

David and Mr Robert Muyinda with one of our members, Frank

October 7th, 2011
Hi everybody!

I hope you are all doing fine! I just wanted to update you on the latest news, it has been quite a while now... sorry about that!

Robert Muyinda, who is one of the board members of the Nazigo Albino Person Association (David's organization) was invited to the Australian  Albinism Fellowship Conference in Melbourne that is taking place now in October. Our hopes is that Mr Muyinda get to meet and talk to professionals within the subject of albinism, and maybe also create some new contacts and acquaintances that would be willing to work with us on our project.

I hope Robert have a wonderful and educational time, and I can't wait to hear about their trip once it is done

I will add some more pictures to our photo album, the most recent ones are of the two orphans, Zanufa and Nalumansi, and their grandmother receiving beds and bedding bought to them by their Norwegian sponsor family. David was the one bringing them their gifts, and the grandmother was moved to tears that someone would care enough for them to do something like this for them, she is soooo very sweet

Have a look at the pictures, the kids are sooo precious!!

Have a wonderful day, and take care!

Mona

World Albinism Awareness Day ?!

January 31st, 2011

I just received a message from someone who has a Bachelor of Community Based Rehabilitation from Kyambogo University. He wants to work with us to raise awareness on albinism and suggests forming "World Albinism Awareness Day" on the world calendar. I think this is a wonderful idea, and I hope we together will be able to achieve this goal.

I think the world has a lot of compassion for those less fortunate and for those in need, but the world needs to know of the problem to be able to do something about it. This will be a giant step towards getting the word out to the rest of the world!

Thank you Gilbert, for the wonderful idea!!

Yeeeeeyyyy!!!

David is now online, in his own home!!! This is great news, making his important job a lot easier. Now we hope to find a way of raising money to install power in his home (using solar panels). As of now he has to go to a community center to recharge his laptop.
The cost of buying and installing solar panels at David's house is appr 1500 Us dollars.

We are also hoping to raise money to be able to lauch a poultry project that will help keep up with the cost of the new nation wide organization that we are in the process of registrating. This is going to take a substantional amount of money, but feels necessary to be able to cope with the cost of running the new organization. Anyone willing and able to help please let me know!

Yeeeeyyy!!! David finally got his laptop! He has been in Kampala a couple of days now and just today picked up the laptop along with some other things for the sponsored families. If everything works out David estimates he will be online in his home in about 2 weeks! Needless to say this will make his work a whole lot easier, not having to travel to an internet cafe to get online...we like!

Thank you once again Trond, for generously donating the laptop!! Kudos!!

General updates about our work in Uganda... :

David and his associates are currently having lawyers work on getting the organization registered nation wide, which is one of his original and primary goals! By being registered nation wide, as opposed to district level, means they will have a chance of getting government help, and also be more able to reach and accommodate all the Ugandans with albinism. Getting the organization registered nation wide cost about 1ooo Us dollars, and is being paid for by some of the money raised at the NFFA (The Norwegian albinism association) member meeting in March this year.

It is David's wish to register all albinos in Uganda so they have a common voice and a place to seek support and information. David and Mr Muyinda ( a Nazigo Albino Person Association's board member and a dear friend to Mr Wangode) have been working with lawyers who have made a long term goal prospect for the new foundation.

The prospect is, in my opinion, very well thought through, and if we are able to fund this plan and take it into action I really do think we could change Ugandan's view on those with albinism, and not to mention bring those with albinism into a better life with good living and working conditions! Anyone interested in seeing the prospect let me know, and I will send it to you!

If Ugandan's change their view on albinos, maybe the rest of Africa will too.... I am sure all of you have heard the horrible stories of what has been going on in Burundi and Tanzania for quite some time...

The cost of putting the long term plan into action is approximately 50 000 Us Dollars.... a LOT of money, but considering the amount of work that will be done and the jobs and education it will provide, it is good value for the money!!

If you, or someone you know, are able and willing  to sponsor our long term plan, let me know! If you need more information than what is provided in the paperwork I will get you in contact with David Wangode and he will answer any further questions you may have!!

I hope you all have a wonderful day, and if you are able...please consider helping someone less fortunate!!

Thanks, Mona

I just received an email from David Wangode saying he is  now in Kampala inspecting the two big packages I had sent to them from Norway on October 7th. The boxes arrived safe and sound, and everything is still in there!! :)) GREAT NEWS!!

This means all our members in the Nazigo Albino Person Association now will have a pair of blublocker sunglasses each, they get SPF 50+ hats and shirts, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and a lot of other stuff directed to each members' individual needs, like George William getting a hearing aid, and Andrew Makage gets a soccer ball etc.

David is trying to gather all members for a gift giving party when the kids go on school holiday December 4th. I will send some money for food and sweets, and hopefully it will be a lot of fun for the members. Many of these people, especially the children, will benefit greatly to gather with others of the same faith, as they often feel lonely and embarrassed having albinism.

During this gathering David will take some new group pictures that I will post on the website for all of you to see! :)

For all of you Americans out there... The http://www.sfpstore.com/ are often having great sales, often offering up to 80% discounts on a lot of their great clothes..if you would like to help our Ugandan friends by sending them some of these very important clothes I recommend you take advantage of these sales! Use the contact page to let me know and I will provide you with the proper mailing address! Thanks!! :))

Have a great day all!! Mona

GREAT SUCCESS!!!

I just heard from David who has had a big function arranged for all the members of the Nazigo Albino Person Association in Kampala today, and he told me it was a HUGE success!! Even neighbors and children without albinism joined in and had a great time

The function's intent was to give all members the gifts we have sent them, and because the members live scattered around and far from each other this was a good way of getting the gifts to everybody and also a possibility to have some fun at the same time!

Some members got a lot of different things, others not so much but everybody got a long sleeved spf/upf 50+ t-shirt, a spf/upf 50+ hat/cap and special blue blocker sunglasses each, which is a good start!

We are still looking for more personal sponsors, so please send me a note if you are interested and/or have any questions regarding that!

I will post pictures as soon as I receive them from David!!

Have a great weekend all!!

Remember; - WHAT YOU DO, - OR DO NOT DO, MATTERS!!!!

If YOU would like to do something please let me know by sending me a message through the contact page!

David says hi to everyone who has joined in by spreading the news and donated money. This is what David wrote in a message to us all after the function:

"The function was so good and very exciting. The children, parents and local leaders appreciated so much your love, care and concern.
Even neighbours came to witness and everybody was saying how all of us looked so beautiful in the gifts we received.
Thanks Edel, Mona, NFFA and all people who are supporting us."
