A great deal of the excitement we get from looking at illustration comes from the very personal qualities of the underlying drawing. Drawing is quite rightly thought of as a preparatory medium for illustrators, associated with exploring thought processes as we work towards the development of an end result. We use drawing to think through things, to solve problems, but the medium of drawing can of course be used as finished illustration. A drawing may present a skewed or distorted view of the world, but it's a highly personal and intriguing view.
