I'm sitting here with your Mom, looking at your very nice web-site of all the puppies...How cute they are. They all look so healthy. We checked out all the litters, it's hard to tell between them. They are such pretty dogs. How many are you keeping from this litter?? It was great seeing you at Christmas. Take care, hi to everyone...Love you lots Hugs & kisses from Grammy

On your puppy page you say that you take careful measures to ensure the genetic soundness of your puppies. Can you tell me what those are? Also, I can't find anywhere who the mother of the latest litter is.
Thank you!

We think our dog is a Karelian Bear Dog. My sister found him as a puppy in North Carolina about 9 yrs ago. He's been the best dog ever....very protective and obedient. Would you say he is a KBD or at least a mix of one?

Love your site and your KBDs! attached you can see the photo of our now three year old Thor taking after a deer just outside of camp. We have not had any bear encounters yet but skunks, squirrels, deer and a pack of coyotes have been no match for Thor. He is the best dog we have ever had and we are thinking about getting him a new companion as we have just had to put our 15 year old Chow/yellow Lab mix Roxy to sleep.

We live on an island in SE Alaska that is home to a large number of coastal grizzly bears. We have a 2 1/2 year old Karelian male, Dillon. He goes with me constantly. When we are in heavy bear country I work him on a 10 foot leash. He lets me know in advance that there is a bear nearby. Dillon does not bark at, or engage these big bears which is important for his safety and mine.

Our family has a 12 year old female Karelian named Tasha. There was an ad in the paper and I called because I had never heard of this breed. I decided to drive out to see the litter and lo and behold, came home with Tasha. She has been THE most incredible member of our family. Tasha was our first "daughter" and now we have 3 other daughters, ages 11, 9 and 5. Tasha has been wonderful with our children and their friends. We love in Salt Lake and have a cabin in the Uintah mountains. Tasha is in heaven there and is definately a perimeter, protector dog. We live on a river with a pond so it is great that she is not a water dog! Tasha loves to go on long hikes and chase all the critters on our property! She has also always been very happy indoors and we love the fact that her breed does not shed or smell like a dog. We now want a puppy to help be a friend to Tasha in her old age. You would never know that she turned 12 in November. Her hips are starting to bother her and that makes all of us sad. Our girls are excited to experience another Karelian and we look forward to meeting the newest member of our family!

5 years ago someone dumped a karelian up on our mountain in Montana. He found us and stole our hearts. Ran ads and was called and told to keep him because he barks to much. This person didn't research his dog as all 'new owners to be' should do. We already knew about their ways due to a show on t.v..Merle is now our protector from the bears & cougars we have around. He is also the best house dog we have ever had. We raise Siberian huskies and Merle oops fathered a mix litter. we fixed that (him). Kept a son and he has all husky traits but with the bear dog protective nature. We always tell buyers of our pups to read everthing you can first and talk to other owners about breed specific behaveur. Karelians get "dumped" due to barking as siberians get "dumped" for their independent nature and need to run. Glad to have found your site and great info on this awsome dog

Here is a current picture of Tiki 7 months old. She is from the 12/4/06 litter. So far she has hunted for squirrels, bear, elk, moose, deer and one skunk by mistake. She loves to get into the woods and run around every day and occassionally we can get her to go for a ride on a kayak. She has been trained with both a dog whistle and a shock collar that has audible as well as low and high shock, and that took all of about 1 day to train her - needless to say, if you spend the right amount of time with your bear dog and get lucky like I did with such a great pup from Aspen Valley then you are in for a real treat.
I guess Karelians do like water!

We have a ten year old possible Karelian. She does all the bear hazing, neighborhood protection, neurotic "I gotta get out of the house and be with someone destruction" that I've read and heard about. She's been a great family dog and we'd like to keep her younger with a companion pup for her to teach the ropes to. We hope to invite one of your new pups into our home this fall. Living in Tahoe, we have ample places to explore, stretch our legs, swim, hike and play...oh, and protect! Our Lacy has chased off many bear in her years here. Last month she helped out visitors with an imposter trying to drive their car (a bear climbed in while they were chatting in the driveway!). We hope to be seeing you soon. Ali
Welcome to my world!
