We always need volunteers - could you give your spare time?
The Cats Need your Support!

We have had Several cats recently that have needed major surgery. Just a few are:-

Chris - a beautiful tabby and white young lady, who as a had eaten a piece of cardboard with cotton wound around it - One end had become tied to her tongue and she had passed the other end, the cardboard being stuck in her intestines. The long operation went very well and she is now gaining weight and we can now look for a new home.

Bert – a handsome young black boy – who had been left behind by his owner with his brother (who was found after sadly kill in a RTA) had a large untreated abscess on his shoulder that had become infected and infested with maggots. He is doing really well despite four inches worth of stitches. Bert is still recovering, but hopefully will be ready in a couple of weeks for rehoming.

Beauty – A very beautiful black lady – who came into care after her owner gave her up due to a small bit mark as they called it on her leg. This small bit mark turned out to be gangrenous opened wound, which was too far gone to save her leg and yesterday she had it amputated. It is early days and she is doing well at the moment.

To help us raise more funds, to enable us to help more cats, we need donations of collectable items and other goods, to sell at antique and collector’s fairs.

Ways To Help

Fostering
This is one of the most rewarding jobs you can do for the cats protection. There are two types of fostering. Either you have the cats in your home, living as part of the family. Or alternatively we can erect pens in your garden where the cats can stay. We cover all costs, including cat litter and food. Our branch does not have a central cattery so we rely on people to foster our cats. When someone passes their homecheck we then match them up to a suitable cat. Then at a time convenient to you, that person will come round to your home and view the cat. If all goes well they can take the cat home with them, and when you are ready you can take on your next cat. If you want the pleasure of owning a cat without the long-term commitment or the financial obligation this is the perfect solution! We offer support to all our fosterers and are only ever a phone call away. Fosters also keep accurate paperwork on their foster cats and process paperwork.

Transport
If you are unable to give a lot of time or don’t want the commitment of fostering there is always transporting. We always have cats needing to go to the vets, being collected from the vets and taken to foster homes or being collected / returned from owner, or strays that need to be brought in. Collecting donations of food and dropping off to fosterers. There really is so much you can do, even an hour a week helps us out.

Fundraising

We love fundraisers, and are always on the lookout for new ideas, people willing to shake tins, sell raffle tickets, approach companies for donations or sell items on Ebay on behalf of the charity. We rely completely on donations and our vet bills are very often huge at the end of the month. It is a juggling act, but we will never put a healthy cat down, or put a cat to sleep purely because it needs expensive treatment.

Have you any unwanted gifts, collectables, china, bric-a-brac, books, CDs, cuddly toys (CE marked only), mobile phones, used stamps? We can turn all these items into funds to help even more cats in need! We are unable to take clothing or electrical items but how about selling these at a car boot sale or on Ebay and donating the profits?

Home Visitors
When someone wants to adopt one of our cats we first need to go out and visit them at home. We will check that their home is safe and secure, speak to them about what sort of cat they are looking for and get a general idea of the type of cat that would suit that environment. If they live near a busy road or other hazards we may still home cats with them, but they will need to be indoor only cats. We also do follow up visits to ensure that the cat is settling in and everyone is happy with the arrangements.

Donations
If you want to help us but do not have the time to get involved we are always in need of financial help. We are grateful for every penny we get. You can become a member of the Cats Protection, set up a standing order to transfer a regular amount to our branch, remember us in your will or give us a one off payment. As we are a charity, we can gift aid your donation and receive 28p more for every £1 you give us. Food, toys, blankets and anything else that can benefit our cats are always in demand!

Newsletter
If you want to keep up with all of our latest news, appeals and rescues why not subscribe to our newsletter? It will keep you up to date with what we are doing and help us out too with funds.

Sponsorship Scheme
We have cats that need special care for the rest of their lives, and cats that we are unable to home due to the trauma they have been through. These cats need sponsors to help pay for their care. If you want to help us with the cost of these special need cats then the sponsorship scheme is for you.

Display Stands
Could you give a few hours of your time a week to put up and take down library stands for us in the Crawley & Reigate district? You will need a car to go to and from the libraries, we supply all materials for the display. This is one of the best ways to get people interested in our work, however currently we do not have anyone able to do this.

We are also looking for someone willing to approach companies for donations or permission to leave a food bin in the store.

Recycling
** We have been made aware that we are able to recycle the foil dishes that many of us buy our cat food in. Not only can we recycle these, making it good for the enviroment; we can also get cash for them, making it good for our cats. If you buy the foil dishes of cat food, please consider washing them out and keeping them for us to help raise money to help the cats in our care.

** We can also recycle mobile phones and raise funds for CP too.

Items for recycling can be dropped off at one of our cat shows.

And finally someone willing to approach companies to allow us to display stands or hold a stall in their premises from time to time.

If any of this interests you........
