What is the Charleston Dog Training Club?

Our club, founded in 1959, is one of the oldest dog training clubs in South Carolina. Comprised of people who enjoy training their dogs, our members have put a lot of obedience titles on a lot of dogs. We support responsible dog ownership; to promote that goal, we offer obedience classes to the general public.  Proceeds from these classes help us sponsor an AKC-licensed obedience trail in January of each year, and two agility trials, one in the spring and one in the fall.

Our members are interested in many different aspects of dog ownership, not just obedience training.   Some members show their dogs in the breed ring and in agility competitions in addition to obedience. We have members who are active in the therapy dog programs, in which dogs visit patients in local hospitals, nursing homes, and schools. Others are involved in dog breed rescue organizations. Our members own a variety of dogs, both purebred and mixed breed.
