Meet "Reggie" - he was placed through CGRR about 6 yrs ago. Last August (2008), he was brought into Midway Animal Hospital for a small mass on his elbow.
It was decided that the mass should be removed. However, during surgery, there were some complications and Reggie was woken up before the mass could be removed. His owners were advised to come back in a few weeks and the surgery would be attempted again, this time using a different anesthesia protocol.
Unfortunately, we did not see Reggie back until a few weeks ago (April 2009). The mass on his elbow had grown and was now huge, infected and ulcerated. Due to their own poor health, his owners made the difficult decision to turn Reggie back into CGRR.
After preliminary testing at Midway Animal Hospital, it was agreed that we would take Reggie over to AVS (Affiliated Veterinary Specialists) due to his last reaction to anesthesia. We would have him evaluated at AVS and see if surgery was even an option at this time. Our visit at AVS was not the happiest as the radiologists there noted that Reggie had cancer which had already spread to his lungs. :(
So back home we went with sad hearts.
It was decided at that point that Ellen (founder of CGRR) , would be a forever foster home to Reggie for whatever time he has left. Currently, Reggie is
non-symptomatic from the cancer and is a happy, cheerful, 9 yr old Golden.
We are doing some alternative treatments on his elbow mass right now with Dr. Kallenbach.
