DERBYSHIRE RACING...... Horses in Training

DERBYSHIRE RACING currently have five horses in training with John Mackie, who’s stables are situated within the beautiful Barton Blount country estate near Church Broughton, South Derbyshire.

Below is a brief description of our horses - click the tabs on the left hand side for additional information, a photo and the pedigree details of each horse:

YEARLING FILLY - recently purchased and is the first offspring by our 7 time winning ex-race mare Available. She is beautiful bay yearling filly by the sprint sire Heeraat. Bred at the Mickley Stud by Richard Kent, she is a good moving filly that we think is the type to make up into an early two year old.

She is currently being broken in and will shortly be ready to commence her first ridden work.

The filly has a very good pedigree on both sides, all speed, and if she takes after her dam she should be a talented, tough and consistant filly.

KINGS ACADEMY, a 4 year old chestnut gelding by Mayson out of the high class family of Inchinor, is our latest acquisition and we are delighted to have secured him to race for our syndicate.

He is a talented and well bred individual, a winner over 5f at Leicester in August 2017 and has shown a good level of ability at a variety of trips and surfaces up to 7f, placing in 8 of his other races.

Kings Academy should stay 1m based on his last run at Leicester and we think he will be progressive type. Currently rated 67 on turf and 72 on AW, he ticks all the boxes we look for in a young, progressive horse with ability and he looks another exciting addition to the Derbyshire Racing string.

BRIDAL MARCH is a 4 year old chestnut filly purchased out of the Mark Johnston yard at the Tattersalls Horses in Training sale in October 2016. She showed a good level of ability at two, placing in her first 6 races at trips up to 7f, despite being the type that was always going to need more time to mature into herself as a 3 year old.

By sought after first season Darley sire Casamento (by Shamardal) Bridal March is well bred and decends from a high class dam family. She is a closely related half sister to the useful filly Haamaat and her family include the French Group and Listed class Heraldiste, Hyderabad and Huron Warrior.

She has been a little disappointing for us to date during 2017 but promises to be a better filly over longer trips. She is also still developing physically and we hope she will make up into a juvenile hurdler during 2018.

CUSTARD THE DRAGON is a speedily bred 5 year old gelding by Kyllachy out of a very well related dam from the family of King Stand Stakes winner Bolshoi, Royal Hunt Cup winner Mine and Portland Handicap winner Swelter. The family is full of Group and Listed placed progeny that progress well with racing and we expect this horse to be no different.

He is a big, scopey gelding that needed time to mature as a 3 year old but after a short Summer break he came back in cracking form, winning six races from 8 starts over 7f at Southwell. He looks a progressive sort and is proving to be another excellent buy for Derbyshire Racing.

INFLEXIBALL is a home bred 6 year old mare by 2000 Guineas winner Refuse to Bend out of our ex-race mare Sphere, who is by the top class sire Daylami. She has shown she has a lot of ability and after going very close to winning several times on the flat during 2015/16 finally got her head in front when bravely winning over 1m2f at Doncaster in July 2017.

She followed this up by winning next time out at Leicester a few weeks later and is going the right way with age and physical development. She also has the scope and pedigree to go hurdling and has schooled well at home, which will give us further options going forward during 2017/18 and beyond.
