As the heading suggests - what a kickstart to the year..... here's a snippet... if you remember I won a Bajidoo bangle ..well take a looksee below....

Opportunity of a lifetime:
Featured Artist Bangles at Bajidoo --Your art on a Bajidoo Bangle? Bajidoo has been approached by so many up coming artists looking for an opportunity to be a designer at Bajidoo that rather than settle on one, we decided to open the door to everyone to try for the opportunity.

From now through upcoming 2010 we will begin and continue accepting art samples from artist who want to be published on a Bajidoo Bangle. For an opportunity to submit your sample go to
http://www.Bajidoo.com/shopand use the contact us link at the top of the page to inform us of your intent to participate - we will get back to you.

If we choose your art for the "Featured Artist" bangle category, as the featured artist you will get the original Bangle based on "your original image" reformatted & adapted by Bajidoo + the potential of 20% of future net sales of your bangle design once posted in our online store. Some categories to consider - urban art/graffiti, goth, fantasy, sci-fi, tattoo art, whimsical, anime, fairies, wildlife, technical ...all styles will be considered.

NOTE: The featured artist will be chosen at the full discretion of Bajidoo, Inc. Bajidoo retains the right to cancel/amend/end this opportunity with little or no notice. This is not notification of a contest but rather an opportunity to publish your art. The artist chosen will be featured here on Facebook, on our Blog and in our store.

Bajidoo will adapt "your work" imagine it from this:

To this:

So if you were ever wondering how to get yourself out there ...here is your opportunity.

Get your pens and pencils set to paper ...we are excited to see what you come up with.

Hint: DO NOT necessarily think "Bangle" when creating your design, just create your art - we will worry about the rest!

Soooooo, can I just say that "I have been given the opportunity to have some of my artwork transformed in a very unique way onto a Bajidoo bangle or two.  Keep watching this space, I will upload images or a link so you can see the result.   I thank Brenda Abdoyan (Bajidoo) for this opportunity.

Art Workshops:

What can I say?  I am having fun with my art student/friend.  We chitter and chatter and we create and we laugh and we play and quite frankly, I could do this every single day of the week and not be bored at all.  It's great to share a journey through art with someone and especially when they are so willing to learn.  I shall post images at a later stage to let you all know what we have been up to... in the meantime, you'll have to hold your breath.

So, with exhibitions happening all over the place (yes Hang it All is still hanging at the Emerald) and the Hot Ginger Gallery (yet to be hung); my "open studio" days are about to happen.... more on that soon, life for Sher is just a little bit busy.

I shall add the images of my artwork that will be exhibited at Hot Ginger and may even be able to share a link to a slide show of the whole exhibition shortly.

In the meantime - keep coming back to visit often and don't forget, should you not wish to receive these updates then just toss me an email or a note and I shall delete you forthwith!    May you have a wonderful February filled with lots of creativity.    Feedback is encouraged!

NOTE to self.... diary the March newsletter otherwise it will be April and I will have been too absorbed in paint and ink and other lovely items and forgotten to type the next issue!

Scramble

Mixed Media on boxed canvas 510 x 510mm

Another artwork specifically destined for Kerikeri and Hot Ginger Gallery.

My immediate thinking about this piece were of those wonderful days as kids when you went to parties and there would be a lolly scramble - how exciting that was (or not so if you missed out).  Happy, joyous, colourful times - it wasn't a difficult task to go back in time and remember - so here you have a festive piece

Inquiries - Hot Ginger or myself direct.

Kandy's Love

Mixed media piece specifically painted for the Hot Ginger Gallery "Love in a Lolly Shop" exhibition from Feb to March 2010.  Kandy's love is about the addiction women have to anything sweet that they simply cannot resist... chocolate, or the scent of a particular flower.

Tuahine

Another piece destined for Hot Ginger Gallery.....

Media:  Gold Leaf, ink, acrylic

Dimensions:  600 x 610mm

Price:  $1500.00

The inspiration behind T uahine is about women affected by cancer.  It may not be their own health but that of others.  As recently as December 2009 a number of women and other members of a small East Coast township came together and supported each other as their heads were shaved.  They were not only raising money but were raising awareness in their community.   Some had lost their mother, or sisters and other members of their whanau to this diabolical disease and it was their way of saying, no matter what, we stand together, we stand strong and we will be courageous for we have tino aroha. (much love)

NOTE:  $500 from the sale of this artwork will be donated by me to the East Coast branch of Child Cancer Foundation

January 2010 and farewell to 2009

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Well!  Can you believe that 2009 is over and it's already the first week in 2010?  I can't!  The finale for moi for 2009 was a mad dash to get as many christmas pressies painted and tweaked and strung up and varnished and of course, I then decided to take up painting lil wooden bangles and attaching wonderful embellishments to them - all in the last week leading up to Christmas Day!  Why?  Well, I guess I have an addictive nature and once I spied these gems I was hooked totally.  Feedback to date on the bangles has been awesome!  Thank you Brenda for supplying the goods so I could actually make the gifts.

I also decided to begin a little promotional experiment (yes, again in the final weeks leading up to Christmas) - why not?  May as well stress myself out to the max' before the big guy pays me a visit.  I packaged up a few postcards and took them to some local stores to sell on my behalf - and they're going out the door like hotcakes on a griddle!

Two artworks went out my studio door a few days before Christmas and I was over the moon with the purchasers decision.  It's great to strike up a friendship with the folks that buy your art - you know they are so in love with the pieces they have chosen and they will always sing this artists praises (at least I hope they do)!

Christmas and New Year was the tops ever..... mostly because we shared it with our good friends and we spent it at a magic spot up the coast a bit - stress free and blissful doing what we all love to do - fish, dive, kick back, sample a few chilled beverages, eat way too much, talk about the one that got away and NEVER do we mention work!

I painted two pieces in December - one that is just above and another that I have loaded onto my front page (Sweet Tui).  These were destined as Christmas pressies and I hear tell that they are also being enjoyed by the recipient.

I have to add a new link and friendship to my pages.  I have had the pleasure of meeting another artist - from the USA.  Actually, I fell over her website on Facebook and since then we have corresponded was frequently throught the net which is great.  If you are checking around for a little something different as a gift - and you can't find it here then scoot on over to www.bajidoo.com and you will find some truly gorgeous artworks in the form of bangles plus.  Let her know that I lead you to her site - and not for any commission but just the fact that I believe in her product and she has become a new art friend.

For now though - the year ahead looks to be a busy one.  I have given myself a plan and will share some of it with you between now and February (next newsletter).  Yes, it involves art art and more art!

Enjoy the remainder of your holidays.... I am!

Playtime - new support to work on

After receiving my winning bangle from Bajidoo I ordered some little packs of bangles to give away for Christmas but, alas, I couldn't help myself - I began playing with one and ended up painting and embellishing 5!  All four recipients of their bangles are absolutely stoked to have received such a unique gift.  I loved the whole process albeit a lot smaller than what I am used to.  I do however think I shall leave these up to the experts and continue along with my over large canvas artworks (much better on my eyes also)!  For those times when I am out of my studio I can continue to play around with these gems.
