Iluminati, the conspiracy of angels is written and directed by Xantiago Lapeira, a Spanish director and produced by Unimages Films, Barcelona.

I was lucky enough to be cast in this movie and to play the lead character, Giacomo Casanova, the famous womanizer.
When I met Xantiago for the very first time he looked at me and said,
- Yes, you are my Casanova. Yes, That is how I want him.

It is for an actor always a bit strange to see how other people see you.
A friend of mine, Isabel Coixet, the Spanish director, recommended me to Xantiago Lapeira. So when Xanti had chosen me I really wondered what she had told him. Her answer was very straight forward as always:
- He is a fencing maniak and he looks like a handsome Gerard Depardieu.

From then on I knew Xanti and I were on the same page. You see, I didn´t want to make another pretty boy version of the character. First of all, I do not fit in that category and secondly I thought it to be quiet boring. In my defense I must say that Casanova and I share the same height.

Iluminati tells the story of Casanova in his fourties. He just got out of jail where he has spent 43 days. The Viceroy of Barcelona found out that Casanova was sleeping with his mistress, Nina Bergonazi, a young and wild Italian actress residing in Barcelona and threw him in jail.
Thanks to a former lover, Madame de Blanchard, Casanova is released and set free. His troubles are just about to start. The Viceroy wants him dead and so be it.
On his way to France Casanova is shot but rescued by the beautiful young lady, Constance, who is working for Madame de Blancard.
It takes weeks for Casanova to recover.

Once back on his feet, he accepts a mission to rescue The book of Smirna, a ancient book full of secrets and mysteries.  He is not the only one interested in it. The pope´s secret gardes, The Iluminatis and the FreeMasons all want it in their possession. Let the ride begin.

The film is a thriller about love, betrayel and honor.

It is coming out in the Spanish cinema in Sept.- Oct 2006. The rest of the countries are still being deceided upon.

Hope you like it.
