The School Year Begins

Welcome to school year 2011 - 20112 In this course, you will create interactive computer applications to be delivered on CD-ROM, DVD, Internet or other delivery media using the elements of text, graphics, animation, sound, video and digital imaging. You will develop proficiency in the use of a variety of electronic input devices, including scanner, digital camera, video camera, and microphone. Organizational skills and critical thinking skills using computer-based productivity tools will be emphasized, including use of animation and scripting in multimedia products. You will engage in project based learning that emphasizes the production cycle i.e. planning, research, design, production, and delivery for a targeted audience.

Photo Story Project

Introduction:

You work for a multimedia design company.Your company has been hired to design a photo story for two different clients:

  • 2 to 4 year old children
  • adults

Each of you will be part of a team of 3 and will be responsible to design a the photo story for both of these clients. You will use the same set of pictures for each customer but the message will be dramatically different. The job of the team will be to:

  1. Create a storyboard for the picture story
  2. Create a photo story from the storyboard using PowerPoint

Each team will present their picture story to the rest of the class.

Task 1:

Each team will designate a project manager.The team will analyze the pictures that were provided to them to create their photo story.Team members will discuss the pictures and work together to lay them out in the order that they want to tell the story.They will lay the pictures out on a storyboard.Each team member will review the following website to get ideas on how to create an effective storyboard. http://www.filmclass.com/flm222/drvstrybrd.pdf .

Task 2:

Team members will work on creating the dialogue to go along with each photo.They will add the dialogue to the storyboard. They will review the storyboard to make sure that it relates the story that they want to tell.Check out this website to see samples of storyboards made from photographs. http://www.storyboardphoto.com/samples.html .

Task 3:

Team members will turn the storyboard into a PowerPoint presentation.Each slide will have the photo become the background for the slide.The dialogue that the team wrote will be added to each slide.

Task 4:

Each team will present their photo story to the class.They must make sure that in the introduction to the photo story that they address the following:

  • Who is the client?
  • Who is the audience?
  • What is the message that they are trying to convey?

Evaluation:

Each team and individual members will be evaluated using the Photo Story Rubric . There are 3 areas being evaluated on this rubric:

  1. Content of photo story
  2. Attractiveness
  3. Voice Quality
