In just one month, Brazil became the largest market for SimpleSite. CEO Morten Elk
encourages other Danish online businesses to seek new fortunes in the country preparing to
host the World Cup and Summer Olympics.
SimpleSite launched activities in 9 new countries in May and June, taking the company’s total
number of national markets to 24. After just one month, the weekly influx of new customers in
Brazil surpassed the United States and other major markets for SimpleSite.
The SimpleSite business model involves several months of testing and developing its marketing
through Google AdWords, after which it successfully boosts the flow of new customers. The company’s
marketing expenditures are typically recouped three-fold within three years.
CEO encourages others to try Brazil
Few companies can match the advantages of SimpleSite’s online business model in connection
with expansion. However, CEO Morten Elk encourages other online companies to consider Brazil
ahead of the United States and other large markets:
“Brazil is booming because the country is experiencing growth and moving from poverty towards
prosperity. It should tempt Danish online businesses to try out the market, since the primary
investment typically involves translating the service to Portuguese and then investing in Google
AdWords,” says Morten Elk.
“Brazil is an open market for online services. Original services have good opportunities, but
we’ve also seen that services launched elsewhere with success are copied, such as Hailo, which
was copied by Easy Taxi in Brazil.”
SimpleSite is marketed as simplesite.com.br in Brazil. In just six weeks, the service gained more
than 500 new paying customers in the land of samba.
Danish export boom to Brazil
The latest export figures from Statistics Denmark show strong growth in Brazil for Danish service
exports, despite a decrease in total Danish exports in the second quarter of 2013.
Steen Fryba Christensen, associate professor at the Department for Culture and Global Studies at
Aalborg University, was quoted as follows on 15 August in the Danish newspaper Berlingske Business:
“There is a growing awareness in Denmark of what Brazil has to offer. It is a big country with vast opportunities. The population has become significantly more affluent in the last 10 years. And there’s a very high volume and greater buying opportunities.”
