About Us

We are a group of people who have banded together to help the many unwanted animals in our lovely part of the country .

Over 250,000 dogs and cats are unnecessarily killed each year in this, the "lucky country" due to over
breeding by backyard breeders out to make a quick $$, with little regard of where their cute little puppies end up and people who are unwilling to desex their dogs and cats, thinking that their offspring will find good homes. They dont. Many of these animals end up in overcrowded pounds, and many will make that final trip alone, unwanted, afraid, and unloved.

We can't save them all, but we can save some.

3rd National Summit a huge success

The 3rd National Summit to End Companion Animal Overpopulation has been hailed a huge success with attendees leaving the Summit excited, inspired, motivated and educated about ending the killing of healthy cats and dogs.

The Summit has had a huge impact and will be remembered as a defining moment in Australia's journey to ending companion animal overpopulation.
The day three workshops held out at the AWL education and rehoming centre proved very successful with delegates from across the board filling the two hour sessions offered by speakers.

The registers for international speakers Nathan Winograd’s Reforming Animal Management, Mike Arm’s Marketing for Shelters, Pounds and Rescue Groups and Angela Stockdale’s Addressing Dog Aggression had to be extended to meet demand, an encouraging sign for cats and dogs throughout the nation.

Representatives from Councils, Pounds, Shelters and Rescue Groups from Australia, New Zealand and Korea presented successful strategies to the 150 strong crowd. Among the spectrum of delegates in attendance the atmosphere was buzzing with ‘getting to zero’ the catch phrase and unified goal of the Summit.

Proceedings will be made available shortly for those who were unable to make the Summit.

PEGGY

Grafton Animal Rescue has been busy in the last couple of weeks.

We had 3 donkeys and 2 mares surrendered to us, one of the mares who we have named PEGGY was in  appalling condition.

PEGGY was riddled with lice, full of worms and in an emaciated state, she is very weak

But she still has good front teeth, allthough she will need extensive work done on her back teeth.

Peggy has been wormed and sprayed for lice, she actually trotted up to us for her dinner the other day and always has a whinny when its food time.

The donkeys were adopted by the GOOD SAMARITAN DONKEY SANCTUARY, we thank them very much for taking on more of these delightfull little creatures.

The GOOD SAMARITAN DONKEY SANCTUARY is always in need of donations to keep going, have a look at their website www.donkeyrescue.com.au

Thanks to all those who have helped with PEGGY so far, a special thanks to Barry Baker.

We have along way to go and any donations for her feed and vet bills would be apprecated.

We will have a weekly progress update on Peggy.
