One of my mother's sister's husbands unfortunately just passed away the Tuesday before Anu's puppies were born. He was a wonderful, funny, interesting man. He was born and lived his whole life on his family farm in Liesjärvi near Keuruu, Finland. When I took my Canadian husband to Finland, it was the first time my uncle had ever met someone who could not speak Finnish and he decided to call him Reagan...lol He told the best stories. He talked of the Russia-Finland winter war and how some of the Russian prisoners of war were kept in the neighbour's barn. He told of how they did not have to be jailed because where would they run....it was fridgid temperatures, in a remote area. Since the Karelian Bear Dog was almost wiped out during the winter war I had planned on naming one of the puppies Väinö all along....but it just gives it all that much more meaning now with his passing. My mother was from a large family of mostly girls, so this litter has inspired me to name the pups after my uncle, my aunts and two of their husbands.....it will be funny to see if the husbands and wives hang out together. So the boys names are Väinö and Veikko Lasse. The girls are Rauha (which also means peace), Kerttu, Kaija, Eeva, Liisa and Maire. Liisa is Väinö's wife and Kaija is Veikko's wife. To see individual pictures of the puppies please scroll down, look at the tabs on the left and you will see each puppy has their own photo page...... To see video of the puppies click here
