We have an assortment of chickens ranging from large breeds such as Orpingtons and Brahmas down to the tiny Belgian and Dutch bantams - and several interesting crosses too.
Although the eggs they give are a bonus we just enjoy having the chickens around - they are of course free range and although they are supposed to stay in our small orchard - they can frequently be found 'helping' us with the gardening instead !
Meet a very special chicken !- Gregory (Peck) was a Gold Laced Orpington with the most amazing character - he just loved to be with us if we were in the garden and enjoyed snuggling up on our laps for a cuddle - a gentle boy - the hens all bossed him about and we were never able to breed from him.
Sadly we lost Gregory this Winter - he was just a joy to own and we miss him dearly.
We also have two call ducks 'Dave and Daisy' - incredibly messy, totally charming and in Daisy's case VERY noisy. The pair are devoted to each other and we hope to have some ducklings this year.
They gain great amusement in watching Trevor running around - usually in the rain - trying to persuade them to go in their duck house every evening so that they can be locked up safely
Meet Brian ! - he is our latest addition here at Gron-de-Mon.
Brian is a 7 months old Brahma Cockerel - he has already made himself at home and has been flirting madly with Snowdrop our Brahma hen.
