About the Breed

Let me introduce to you the rare and wonderful Havanese dog.  Non-shedding, not yappy, good natured and smart.  Why, they are quite possibly the most perfect breed there is!

Here's a little breed information just for your reading pleasure.....

Havanese are the only native dog of Cuba...Havana; hence the name "Havanese".  The breed was created from bichon lapdogs brought to Cuba from Europe during the 17th Century.  Havanese were the preferred pet of the Cuban aristocracy during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Havanese are a non-shedding dog that comes in a wide variety of colors and patterns.  They are small and sturdy dogs ranging in size from 7 to 18 pounds.  Havanese is a part of the bichon family of dogs, which also includes the maltese and bichon frise.

They are intelligent, happy, and playful.  They get along well with children and pets.  They want to be near their owners and are often referred to as a "velcro" dog.  They are not prone to barking, shyness.  They are not possessive or aggressive.

Havanese are clever in getting attention and are known to perform tricks to get attention; due to this propensity to learn tricks and desire to please Havanese have long been used in the circus!

Their long coats require regular grooming; but for many a puppy or teddy bear clip is the most convenient.  They come in three coat types-smooth, curly, and wavy.  Their coat is thick but light and serves as a sunshade, not a protection against cold.  In fact, their unique coats survived the intense tropical heat of Cuba.

Today, the havanese disposition, size, and coat make it one of the best companion dogs particularly for families and those with allergies
