Eastwood School was built in 1878 at a cost of £9,000 off Bradford Road and fronting onto the new development of Marlborough Street. The three departments of: Infant, Junior and Senior, had accommodation in two stories for 900 scholars.

The school was renamed Swire Smith School in 1967 after a renowned Keighley Industrialist and educationalist. At the time it also became a Middle School. The school moved to a new building on Cherry Tree Rise in 1978 and the old premises was demolished.
