Tips for taking good Photos
Photo Tips

I need one good close-up photograph to create a portrait, but if you have several photographs you can provide, that will give me multiple references of the subject, the more the merrier! I can also combine several photos into one portrait, as long as the lighting and perspective is similar in each photo.

You can send photographs to me by regular mail (these will be returned to you when the portrait is finished), or email high resolution digital images. I enlarge images to see details of the subjects, so it is very important that the image is clear enough to enlarge.

I want you to be happy with your portrait, so I may request additional photographs if the ones you provided don't show enough detail.

Photography services I can provide : if you do not have any acceptable photos that can be used as reference for your portrait, for a small fee, I can come to your house (or other favorite location in the Springfield, Missouri area) to take photographs of the subject or subjects. I will take numerous photographs in different poses and lighting for you to pick from.

Tips to help you take great reference photo’s: Use natural light whenever possible. However, its best not to take the photo in direct sunlight, as this will make the subject squint and can also distort colors. If you need to take the photo inside, try and find a window with plenty of light and position your subject next to the light source, rather the using a flash. Closeup shots of the face are very important to include. Make sure the eyes are clear and sharp and have not been blown out by a flash or have red eye.
