Help ease your dogs stress
Caring for your dogs mental health
Each day allow some time with the cone collar off- if  they have one- this relieves some of their stress. Also if the weather is hot please remember that the collar makes their head rather hot.
Play with them (amount of movement may be restricted- follow your vets advice) but if possible let them chew/lick afew of their old toys to remind them of who they are & keep some kind of normality.

If your dog has paralysis with hope of return of function or indeed possibly one good hind or front leg (each situations different) then you will be advised how to carry out physiotherapy on the leg concerned to prevent muscle wasting, as once muscles have gone they never come back so it is important to keep the muscles your dog will need to walk. This can be anything from simple massage or gently moving the leg back and forth to maintain muscle mass and strength. Your vet will advise you.

Your dog may also appreciate a good `rub` all over and a scratch as he/she may not be able to lick or nibble any itches.

Expert physiotherapy may  be required for things such as EMS - `Electrical Muscle Stimulation`. However, often if the dog takes to it okay the physiotherapist may teach you how to use the EMS machine at home so you can hire or buy a machine of your own to use.

And obviously give them lots of hugs and cuddles if possible!

Immobility Stress
Your dog may become stressed with the fact that they are immobile. Our dog showed her stress by getting abit `crabby` and wanting to play-bite us and go a little bit boisterous.

We just simply placed one of her toys in her mouth and let her bite it instead of us. She would have a good chew then feel better.

Also things like those times when you let take off the cone collar if you let your dog wash themselves a little it helps them feel better about themselves and helps them keep their pride.

Try to keep things as near to normality as possible so that they still fell like a dog and not a patient.
