White Horse Cup Challenge
The White Horse Cup challenge between Maniototo and Arrowtown was transferred from Arrowtown to the Queenstown Events Centre. Drenched ground with the rain bucketing down the whole game, it never let up. In atrocious conditions Arrowtown held on to the trophy winning 8 points to 3. They scored early in the first half with a penalty and a try. the second half was Maniototo's, Thomas Huddleston kicked a penalty and the boys pressed the line for 10 minutes near the end. but with each move the line got closer but a knock on a foot from the try line ended the game. Man of the match was Thomas Huddleston. I have to say I thought the whole team played brilliantly. It was a great challenge.

A couple of good oldies.. Mike Dowling and Lawrence Dougherty.
Maniototo so close to the line when the final whistle blew. Arrowtown men very relieved.
With many players (10) unavailable because of a (Anna and Craig Campbell's) wedding Maniototo went down to Alexandra 24 points to 12.. Alexandra scored 4 tries to 2 with them getting some lucky breaks through an intercept try and a charge down kick that led to a try. It was a bitterly cold day with a freezing wind. On the bench you will be interested to know was Peter Heron our Maniototo Area School headmaster and his pupil who had just come off from another game (Dunstan v Kavanagh) Tim McMillan. This proved to be a crucial result Alexandra went out to 3 flag points ahead of Maniototo. Tries were scored by Ryan Dowling and Gavin Dowling with Willy Clouston converting one of the tries. Steve (Beaver) Lithgow was player of the day.
