I must say I thankyou for everything that you have done for Johnny over the years and I know that he did appreciate everything you did for him. All the Best and kind regards. Gregory Nolet.
As we remember John Fitzharris.
There were no departures from the 2005 teams but there were lots of returning and new players. Gains include Andrew Tweed, Nick Gee, Ryan Dowling, Duncan Smith, Matt O'Connell, Logan Dowling, Ben Graham and Sean Becker.
Generally Maniototo fielded a Premier and Senior side but this year there was no senior grade so it was a matter of playing "up" a grade or not playing at all.

What an awesome day we had in Queenstown the Seniors had a great game and their Highlight of the season drawing with Wakatipu Wanderers 8 all. In early June we drew our team from the second division because of lack of numbers. Club president Duncan Helm said "The decision was made relunctantly, but was unavoidable given the Club's inability to constantly field a full team.

Maniototo 20 v Upper Clutha 5. It was a good team effort by Maniototo in very raw conditions. Tries by Ryan Watson and replacement halfback Paul Dougherty. No. 8 Ryan Dowling played strongly as did flanker Duncan Smith and Thomas Huddleston's accurate kicking proved invaluable. Maniototo had a setback when captain Charles Crutchley injured knee ligaments 15 minutes into the second spell.

10/6/2006 Maniototo will play Arrowtown in the Central Otago club final after it won a dramatic extra-time semi-final against Wakatipu in Ranfurly. Maniototo won 11- 8 when Thomas Huddleston kicked a penalty from 30 metres in the first half of extra time after prop Nick Gee had crashed over to level the scores 8 - 8. two minutes from the end. There was jubilation for Maniototo and desolation for Wakatipu, the winner of the Central Otago and Otago Country-wide title last year. It was tense throughout in Ranfurly before Maniototo pipped Wakatipu to earn itself a final. Huddleston missed the conversion of Gee's try which would have won the game, but he made no mistake with a penalty from 30 metres four minutes into extra time. No. 8 and captain Ryan Dowling was again inspirational and James Becker played well.
Captain Ryan Dowling Tossing for extra time.
17/6/2006 Maniototo 18 v Arrowtown 11. Fullback Reece Winter gave Arrowtown a 6 - 0 lead after as many minutes with two penalties, but winger Thomas Huddleston with two penalties and a dropped goal had Maniototo ahead at halftime 9 - 6.. The third quarter was decisive as first five-eighth Hamish Wilson dropped a goal and Huddleston added two long range penalties to give Maniototo an 18 - 6 buffer with 25 minutes to play. Arrowtown attacked for most of the remainder of the game but Maniototo defended heroically. Its defence cracked only once, when midfielder Craig Woodcock scored 15 minutes from the end.It seemed Arrowtown must score as it battered away in the closing minutes, but there was no way through a well organized defence and referee Roger Hills' final whistle was greeted with jubilation by the Maniototo players and supporters. Captain Ryan Dowling was outstanding as a player and leader from the blindside flank, Richard Harley was in everything from the openside, lock Johnny Duncan impressed with his line-out work and around the park. but this was a commited effort from the entire pack. Halfback James Pyle and Hamish Wilson were effective inside back combination, Wilson big boot relieving pressure on many occasions.

Maniototo clawed its way back to 14 - 17 through the boot of Thomas Huddleston and a try to hooker Nigel A'Court. Flanker Richard Harley and captain Ryan Dowling were prominent in the Maniototo Pack. While Bryce Rishworth was an enterprising fullback. It was a desered win by Lawrence which played with a lot of commitment.
Nigel A'Court scores a good try.

Maniototo maintained its standards during a difficult season, and thoroughly deserved its title of champion Central Otago club for 2006. While the competition format caused wide-spread discontent, Maniototo went quietly about its work under coach Joe Donald and Captain Ryan Dowling to end the season with the White Horse Cup and Central Otago Championship. It played percentage, accurate rugby, never more so than in the final when, as underdog, it beat Arrowtown 18 - 11 in Arrowtown. It lost only three games during the season - a shock loss to Cromwell, a 6 - 11 loss to Arrowtown in the round robin, and 17 - 22 to Lawrence in the Country - wide semifinals. But for the most part it maintained a high standard and its depth was emphasised by the fact it had 23 try - scorers.
Thomas Huddleston reached his century
