Maniototo v Crescent

Maniototo proved too strong for Crescent in its Otago country premier game in Kaitangata winning 24 - 6. In freezing conditions with sleety showers The player to stand out was flanker Andrew Hore who made several strong runs ans was always on to the loose ball. Paul Dougherty and Ryan Dowling also impressed while Johnny Duncan and Ben Graham sontested the line-outs well. Greg Dougherty at halfback and Dean McAuley at fullback had strong games.

Maniototo v Lawrence

Maniototo was made to work hard in a dour game at Lawrence winning 13 - 6. Halfback Greg Dougherty scored the only try. Thomas Huddleston kicking two penalties and one conversion.  Ryan Dowling stood out for Maniototo.
Hamish Wilson taking on 4 Lawrence men.

Thriller of a Semi-Final

The game was tied 7 - 7 at halftime after Alexandra had displayed early brilliance when Bevan Passmore doubled round to cross in a handy position. This was balanced by Maniototo's No 8 Paul Dougherty coming off a maul to run 30 metres for a try. Alexandra also had the better of the first 10 nimutes of the second half and shot to a 14 - 7 lead when Passmore picked up a loose ball and crossed for his second try. Successful penalty attempts two by Blair Stewart (Alexandra) and three by Thomas Huddleston (Maniototo) took the score out to a nail biting finish. A try to Hamish Wilson in extra time clinched a 23 - 20 win for Maniototo and a place in the Reid Farmers Country-wide Premier Final.

Maniototo proved it was worthy champions when it defeated Clutha 26 - 10. The teams were locked at 3 all at halftime. The second spell was only three minute old when Thomas Huddleston added a further penalty to make the score 6 - 3.  Dean McAuley added a good try to put Maniototo further into the lead at 11 - 3 at this stage it was all Maniototo.Thomas Huddleston added a further penalty and at 14 - 3 . Clutha was still in the game but Maniototo had other ideas. Greg Dougherty scored twice  and at 19 - 3 the game seemed safe. Two minutes later Greg Dougherty was in for his second as Maniototo went further ahead 26 - 3 . In the dying seconds Clutha scored and it was converted. Maniototo deserved the win and with loose forwards Ryan Dowling and Paul Dougherty in superb form they were able to supply good ball for the backs to use. Ben Graham and Johnny Duncan had a monopoly on line-out ball. In the backs Greg Doughery had a very good game while Hamish Wilson's tactical kicking was first rate. In mid field James and Sean Becker tackles strongly all day and shut down any Clutha attacking moves..
Greg Dougherty spots a gap and scores one of his two tries.

On the day the more experienced Maniototo side beat Arrowtown 24 - 0. Thomas Huddleston kicked 4 penalty goals  and to a 12 nil halftime lead. Maniototo took a grip on the game after centre Sean Becker picked up a skip pass at speed and cut through under the posts. A dropped ball from Arrowtown was hacked up the field by a Maniototo player Hamish Wilson picked up the bounce and flicked a pass to hard running Johnny Duncan. The big lock outstripped the closing cover over 50 metres and scored to finish a goal line to goal line movement.
Maniototo had the edge in the lineouts through the jumping of Ben Graham and Duncan and probed round the scums through the wiles of Greg Dougherty.
