_____________About Post 1____________
A Brief History

IUNVA was formed in 1989.

It was formed to provide for the social, welfare and psychological needs of its members. IUNVA is a registered Charity and is funded by annual membership fees, donations and other fundraising activeities.

IUNVA and Post 1 were first based in Niemba House in Stonybatter. They operated from Niemba House until the opening of Arbour House, Mount Temple Rd, Arbour Hill, at the rear of Arbour Hill Church and Cemetery, in May 1991.

Post 1 was the first post (branch) of IUNVA. Most of the founding members of the Association were, and most of them still are, members of the Post 1.

Arbour House is also the location of the Association's Memorial Garden, which was opened in 1998 by the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese. The garden is maintained by members of Post 1.

On behalf of the Association, Post 1 also organise the annual wreath laying ceremony, normaly held early Nov.

A weekly Loto draw, run by the Loto Committee, is the main means of funding for the Post. Members also run bingo on Wednesday night for  people living in the Arbour Hill area.  Known as the 'Bingo Committee' they also take the bingo players away for a weekend during the year and organise a barbeque for them in the summer.

Our Social Committee organise many fundraising and social events during the year. The Annual Dinner Dance the Post Barbeque and Annual Draw are the three main events they organise.

All the sub committees are hard working and provide for the social and financial needs of the Post.
