AMBERLEY 2008
36 SQUADRON ASSOCIATION.

The arrival of the fourth C17A Globemaster 111 at Amberley in March marked a proud day for the men and women of the squadron and a tremendous addition to the airlift fleet.

The arrival was
witnessed by Chief of the Air Force,Air Marshal Geoff Shepherd, the Air Commander Australia Air Vice Marshal Mark Binskin,Commander Air Lift Group Air Commodore Jack Plenty,O.C. 86 Wing Group Captain Gary Martin and the Squadron C.O. Wing Commander Linda Corbound.

This aircraft improved no-end the RAAF airlift capacity and the aeromedical evacuation capability and significant additional humanitarian capability should the need arise.

The arrival of this fourth aircraft completed the different load configuration of each Globemaster with full passenger seating, aeromedical role, air field defence support - Bushranger and  Landrover vehicles with two military Mack trucks.

The sight of this monstrous sized aircraft could easily dwarf the memories of the 86 Transport Wing's Dakota aircraft  that did such a stirling job during the Berlin Airlift crisis way back when.Imagine one of these C17As skimming the roof tops of the Berlin houses bloated with life sustaining supplies.
