The beginning...............

Minka & Tashka the beginning...............

Our first two whippets

Whippets, the beginning......................

The Salatini kennel was established by myself Nikki Hunter & my mother Val Hunter.  Our first 2 whippets  30 years ago, were 2 beautiful blue & white parti coloured bitches of mainly Nimrodel/Laguna breeding called Minka & Tashka.  Thus our love affair with whippets began.

A sweet red fawn bitch of Oakbark breeding followed before we finally decided to have a go at showing seriously & our first whippet to enter the Ch Show ring was a lovely brindle & white parti coloured bitch called Starwyng Parfait Amour at Salatini - Chloe, who did very well in the show ring winning BPIB at Ch Show level, BIS at open shows plus gaining her stud book number.  Tragically we lost her at a very young age.

Devastated we couldn't face having another whippet for some years until Nina -
CH Marchpast Silent Wings Over Salatini, came in to our lives at a year old, she was bred by Stephen McMorrow.    Nina was a once in a life time whippet, she was the most glorious red brindle, so feminine & elegant & an outstanding showgirl.  She quickly gained her title winning her first CC & BOB under Bo Bengston at Southern Counties Ch Show 2000 going on to win the Hound Group & BIS all breeds.  Sadly we lost our beautiful girl to cancer at the age of 11.5 years old, she lives on every day in our memories.

We then did not have another whippet until Mossbawnhill She's Eleqtric at Salatini joined us & is now part of our current show team which can be seen on their own individual pages.

Throughout the years we have also owned & shown Chinese Cresteds, Toy Poodles & Afghan Hounds with some success.

Ch Berinshill Sophia our first Italian Greyhound

Italian Greyhounds, the beginning...........

After having owned whippets for many years my yearning for an Italian Greyhound since a small child, completely took over & although the breed were very scarce at that time i was determined to get my hearts desire.

In 1990 along came my first Italian Greyhound from the famous Berinshill kennels of Cecelia Boyle & the late Diana Waugh.  Ch Berinshill Sophia
was my introduction to showing Italian Greyhounds.  She very quickly gained her title, winning Best of Breed at Crufts, 6 CC's, 5 RCC's & several BIS wins.

Her first litter to Ch Dairylane Savoir-Faire produced our first Champion,
Ch Salatini Valentino a BIS winner.

A later litter produced
Ch Salatini Romeo, who gained his first CC at just 9 months old.

We were then lucky enough to purchase a beautiful bitch from the famous Tamoretta kennels of the Hon Anna Marshall. This lovely bitch was called Tamoretta Mirabile Visu at Salatini & her first litter to  Moonpenny Poet of Fleetgrace produced the multi Ch Show winning litter sisters
Ch Salatini Poeme &
Ch Salatini Soraya.

Ch Salatini Poeme
was Top Italian Greyhound for several years running, winning 10 CC's, 5 RCC's, she won the Toy Group at Three Counties Ch Show 2001, BOB at Crufts plus several BIS wins.

Ch Salatini Soraya
won 4 CC's, 4 RCC's & a Toy Group 2 placing at CH show level.  She was mated to Turigner High Tide & produced an outstanding litter of 5 which included:

Ch Salatini Symphony, Ch Salatini Supanova, Ch Salatini Sensation,
between these 3 litter mates they won 20 CC's, numerous Top IG in Breed & Top Puppyin Breed wins, plus BIS & Toy Group wins. The other 2 litter mates where Salatini Serenade (RCC winner), Salatini Star Performer (RCC Winner), which resulted in Soraya winning TOP BROOD BITCH in the whole Toy Group from just this one litter.

Sadly my mother Val passed away in 2008.  However, the Salatini name lives on and whilst at the moment i am currently just showing the whippets and am not actively showing or breeding Italian Greyhounds........... who knows what the future holds...................

And now in 2011 i have a beautiful New Arrival Sophia Loren!!!
