Adamo has been dancing since he can remember. In his early years, Michael Jackson was a major influence in learning body isolation and control. By his late teens he tinkered with funk dancing, backing up singers in various state concerts and events.
At the age of about 18-19 Adamo developed an interest in Salsa, Cha-Cha and Merengue. It was out in the club scene in Melbourne where Adamo would watch, learn and understand about different forms of salsa and their characteristics. It wasn't until the age of 26 that he would make a commitment to the development of the dance, following the Cuban Salsa dance form.
Under the watchful eye of the Cuban Dance Academy and Demogy instructors in Melbourne, he acquired a very good understanding of “move breakdown”, the combination of “Cuban Son”, Afro-Cuban dances and Rumba, which are the fundamentals of Cuban Salsa and where Salsa originated, in Cuba. His understanding of “Rueda” dancing (circular dancing changing partners), is well developed and his teaching methods are very intuitive and authentic.
Adamo has played a significant part in concerts (Roots Of Rhythm 2, at Cuban Dance Academy) as performer and choreographer.
After assisting at the Sydney Coroberee in Cuban salsa “Rueda” workshops in September 2005, Adamo chose to follow his passion for Salsa, incorporating Salsa dancing and furthering his learning through all aspects of his life.
In 2005 to 2006 he developed an interest in other styles of Salsa, including L.A Salsa and New York Salsa. Adamo became more intereted in the technicalities of Salsa dancing, the follow and lead techniques, shines and partner work, in order to learn and build upon his knowledge of Salsa. Adamo has truly evolved in his Salsa style and it is evident in his teaching and performances.
Adamo was finalist in the 2006 National Salsa Championships in Sydney and competed very well. Watch out for Adamo in the near future!
