NOTE: Since this letter was written I have received a response from the President of the Eufaula Heritage Association. The gentleman issued me an apology and assured me that this type of activity would be addressed and would not be tolerated again.
My hopes are that this incident will enlighten those of you that choose to visit any type of Historical homes or locations that requires payment since this gives them the opportunity to drum up more business by giving us what they think we want.

I normally would not purposely try to discreted another party but I feel that in this case I need to make as many aware as possible. Most of you know that Buddy and I travel around the country during the summer months. We made a stop in a small town by the name of Eufaula, Alabama. While there we discovered that there was several very old mansions so we decided to visit some of them. Actually we were more interested in the historical aspect in this case than we were paranormal activity. As you will see in the letter posted below, the young man realized that we were paranormal investigators and he tried to take advantage of this. Please be aware of the possibility of this happening to you when visiting these sites. I'm still very upset that we were abused in this manner so I decided to write to their local newspaper. Whether they choose to print it or not is yet to be seen but I wanted to post it on our website as well. If you go to EUFAULA, ALABAMA and go to SHORTER MANSION, BEWARE!! Please read below.
Dear Editor,
My husband and I are part time RV travelers and Paranormal Reserachers. We decided to visit friends who reside in your lovely city. We had no knowledge of your town or it's history but while here we dicided to visit some of the wonderful old homes. The one that stood out as we drove down the street was the Shorter Mansion. We couldn't wait to get in there with our cameras in hand. My husband is also history buff so this was right up his alley. My husband, myself and my girlfriend were greeted by a young man who was very hospitable and he gave us the tour. We made our first mistake when entering by letting him know that we were Paranormal Investigators. Yes, I can hear the you mumbling as I'm clicking away at the keyboad. In spite of this we take our investigations very seriously and have been active for 6 years. The young man informed us that there had been some reported activity on the 2nd floor in the front bedroom so of course we had our cameras ready. After the tour I ask the young man if I could return to the 2nd floor and take some pictures and he agreed. I went up and no sooner had I entered a hallway, the lights started flickering on and off. I immediately summoned the young man and ask him where the switch was to the lights and if anyone had been near them. He advised me that the switch was on the bottom floor and that no one had touched them. I then requested that my husband and girlfriend come up to assit me. Immeditately we started seeing lights flashing around the room. The thing was, the light appeared to be a laser light. The young man excitedly ran up the stairs and started asking questions. After a few mintues he informed us that this was freaking him out and he returned to the 1st floor. The light continued moving around and I signaled to my husband and friend to keep talking. I slipped down the staircase and I came face to face with the young man with a laser light in his hand.
Needless to say they young mans face turned white when we made eye contact. I was extremely upset that this young man tried to trick us and it was obvious that the women in the building knew what was going on. As we left the house we again told one of the ladies that what they had done was not fair and that we were serious about our research. She made no comment. She just shut the door and we heard the lock click behind us. Not only did they make $15 off of us but they tried to scam us by trying to take advantage of us. The word we use is "Investigator" . This means we don't accept things at face value but we research and rule out all other possiblities. If we had been inexperienced hobbyist we would have run out and told other paranormal groups which would have brought business into your town. Sadly we will not be doing that, instead Shorter Mansion now has a black eye. I just hope that the City of Eufaula does not condone this type of practice.
Sincerely,
