The original Garden tool made in stainless steel was invented by Robert Todd, Oxford England, in the late 1990's and was probably more of a fork than a spade. The new improved range of Sporks are more of a spade than a fork and emerged in 2006 after being further developed with the involvement and manufacturing skills of the Dewit family in Holland who have been making top quality tools for several generations.
The new Spork range is made from carbon steel with a special burnished finish that protects the metal and allows it to blacken with age like the tools our grandfathers used. The handles are made from hardwood at the Dewit Factory in Holland.

D and T handled Sporks
The Spork is smaller in size than a full size fork but larger than a border fork and is ideal for digging gardens and allotments. It is both light and strong and can lift more soil than a normal fork. In most soil the Spork works like a spade with the exception when digging very light sandy soil. Both the T-handle and D-handle Spork have a 90cm ash shaft and a head size of 247mm and is 155mm wide.
The T-handled version enables users to change their grip position to relieve hand fatigue and to maximise digging force.

Midi/Border Spork
Shown here with the D-handled Spork, the Midi Spork is 1 metre in length and is excellent in small gardens or for working in between borders. It is also useful for smaller gardeners, the elderly or anyone gardening from a wheelchair. It is not heavy or cumbersome and weighs just 820g. The tool head size is 10cm x 17cm.
