History of the Tonkinese
History Of The Tonkinese

"Tonks" were developed on a small scale in North America during tho 1930s. these early Hybrids, known as "Golden Siamese", were largely ignored, and it was not until the late1960s, when the breed made its debut as the "Tonkinese", that they started attracting there fair share of attention. Full recognition in the US came by the 1980s, now this has extended in Australia in 2007.

Ultra-affectionate, the Tonkinese is one of the most people-oriented of shorthair breeds.

Only five varieties of Tonkinese are recognized in the US, but in Britain the one association that accepts the breed has introduced a new standard that allows for all recognized Burmese colours.
