Tales from Triplecreek
Latest News and Upcoming Events
Not so old....

Dazzle came out of retirement at the Thanksgiving Cluster to play Preferred Agility. She went 3 for 3 all with placements to start & finish her Novice Jumpers Preferred title, and threw in a Standard leg also with a placement for good measure. Brazen is now playing at the Excellent level and shows occasional flashes of brilliance. He took first place on his final run of the weekend on a very difficult jumpers course!

Rally On!!

Brazen, Jack and Flyer entered Rally Excellent at the Northwest CT Dog Club Trial and the Nathan Hale OTC Trial. Flyer earned her second and third legs to complete her RE title, and the boys each earned their first and second legs, needing one more to finish. Unfortunately, they'll just have to wait till next year....

More Fun With Flyer

Flyer has been a very busy little girl. She   finished her ASCA CD on Friday October 14th      in the pouring rain, then on Saturday began     work on her UKC CD by earning her first 2 legs, each with a 2nd place finish.
BIG E 2011!

It's that time of year again...where does the time go?! The Triplecreek gang will once again participate in SBGRC's public education program at the Eastern States Exposition - The Big E - in Springfield, MA, this year represented by the boys, Jack and Brazen. This will be Brazen's 6th year, but Jack's 1st. Come and see them September 21st and 22nd in the Farm-a-rama building!

By the skin of his teeth...

...and the grace of some fabulous judges, Jack has earned 2 Junior Hunter legs, the first at SBGRC's test on July 3rd and the second at Colonial Retriever Club's test on August 6th. He's halfway there! Hopefully his next 2 legs will be less creative!

A Triple-Double for Brazen
Double Q, Double Titles, Double HSG

Brazen did a fabulous job at the Southern Berkshire Golden Retriever Club's 11th annual Agility trials June 10-12. On Saturday he Qualified with placements in both standard and jumpers classes to finish his Open Agility and Open Agility Jumpers titles, and was High Scoring Golden in each class.

He is now U-CH, U-CD Triplecreek Bodaciously Brazen CD, OA, OAJ, RA, CCA, ASCA CD, CGC

Flyer Finishes Her First CD in Style!

Less than a week after going High-In-Trial at the ASCA shows, Flyer finished her AKC Companion Dog title with another 1st place blue ribbon. (This time she lost the run-off for the High-In-Trial award, but the tie score is still nice!) For an energetic little girl who is often a froot loop in obedience class, she really pulls it all together in the ring. She's on her way!

Flyer Goes High-In-Trial!!
It was a case of "Deja vu all over again" as Flyer entered the spring ASCA trials on May 7th after taking the winter off, and like her father before her, placed first and second with a High-In-Trial award. However, she did out-do Brazen's high score by 1/2 point!! She now has 2 ASCA CD legs to go with her 2 AKC CD legs. Watch for her to finish both soon, as well as starting UKC.

More snow?!! REALLY?!!

Welcome to the Winter of 2011!! Snow every other day and no end in sight! Lots of fun to play in, not so much fun for "personal business." And a game of Fetch presents a whole new set of challenges!

Jazz ~ 1997-2011

There is another bright star in the heavens as Jazz has gone on to be with Duke at the Rainbow Bridge. She left us peacefully exactly 13-1/2 years after she walked into our lives and took over. She took me on a wild ride, introducing me to new friends and new fun, new joy and new heartbreak. She survived lymphoma, a splenectomy and a surprise late-life pup. She was truly what a versatile golden retriever was all about. Her legacy will live on in her kids and grandkids.

Happy Holidays!

And best wishes for a fabulous 2011!

Flyer and Brazen do Springfield

Flyer and Brazen represented the gang at the Thanksgiving Classic Cluster in Springfield, MA this year and did a fine job upholding the family honor. Flyer finished her Rally Advanced title with a third place, then moved up to Excellent and placed 2nd for her first RE leg. She also earned her 2nd CD leg in obedience. Brazen played Agility and earned 2 Open Standard legs, both with placements. Go Team Triplecreek!!

So Close to the Trifecta!

Jazz placed 3rd in SBGRC's Fun Field Trial Veteran Stake, proving she is still a very versatile old girl! She was Best Veteran in Breed and High Scoring Veteran in Obedience at the club's match this summer. The Veteran Stake was hotly contested this year, drawing 15 entries ages 8 to 16! Jazz's daughter Dazzle earned a JAM (Judges Award of Merit) in the stake, having recently crossed the veteran threshold herself. Grandson Jack JAMmed the Singles Stake. All in all, an excellent day!

Jack and Brazen Earn 3rd CDs!
Jack and Brazen each have their third Companion Dog titles, earning their ASCA CDs at the Australian Shepherd Club of America's Harvest Moon Mania on October 2, 2010. Brazen finished the same way he started this spring, going High-In-Trial with a 1st place 198! Jack was channeling Grampa Duke and managed a 180 while amusing judge and spectators alike.

Jazz and Dazzle Play UKC Rally
The UKC has recently added Rally Obedience to its roster of events, so Jazz and Dazzle dusted off their skills and gave it a try. In the first trial, Dazzle took 1st place and High In Trial with a perfect 100, and Jazz took 4th place with a 98. In the 2nd trial, Jazz took 2nd place with a 99 and Dazzle was 3rd with a 98. Not bad for a couple of musty old broads!

Flyer Awarded a CCA!

Flyer was awarded her Certificate of Conformation Assessment at the CT River Valley GRC event on 9/19/10.
3 very knowledgeable judges gave her a thorough examination and determined that she is indeed a worthy example of a Golden Retriever. She is proud to become the 5th Triplecreek dog to attain this honor!

Back to the Big E!!
Once again Jazz and Brazen will do their part for Public Education and Responsible Dog Ownership month at the Eastern States Exposition - The Big E! They will be there September 21st and 22nd with lots of their friends from the Southern Berkshire Golden Retriever Club, showing off what well-trained dogs can do, and getting petted silly. Sometimes I wonder which they like more - the showing off part or basking in all the attention. Come join us. They'd love to see you.

Can Jazz Complete the Trifecta?

At the SBGRC match in August, Jazz was named Best of Breed Veteran in the conformation ring, then went on to win High Scoring Veteran in Match in obedience. Next month SBGRC will hold its annual Fall Fun Field Trial where Jazz will be entered in the Veteran Stake. Can this 13 year old girl complete the Trifecta - Best Veteran in all 3 venues? Wait and see.....

Another CD for Jack!

Jack has earned his UKC Companion Dog obedience title, placing 4th and 3rd in two trials on July 18, 2010. Yes, UKC uses a high jump in the Novice classes! Just one of the many things that make UKC competition so much fun.

Two New Titles!
Jack and Flyer each finished new titles at the Yankee Classic shows in Springfield, MA on July 9, 2010. Jack earned his CD with placements, and also placed on a bumper leg for good measure. Flyer finished her Rally Novice title with scores of 97, 100 & 98, then moved up to the Advanced level and earned her first RA leg. These two are on their way!

JAZZ IS 13 TODAY!!!

5/14/2010    Happy 13th Birthday Jazz!! It's been a long, often scary, more often wonderful journey. Many happy returns, Baby Girl.

Jack and Brazen Win Big at the ASCA Trials

Jack and Brazen celebrated May Day 2010 by trading 1st places in Novice B obedience at 2 ASCA trials. Out of the house for the first time in months, both boys did extremely well!  In   the first trial, Brazen took 1st place and High- In-Trial with a 198 and Jack was 4th with a 194-1/2. In the second trial, Jack took 1st place with a 196 and Brazen was 3rd with a 192-1/2. What a great start to the spring!!

Season's Greetings from Triplecreek.

Wishing all our friends a joyous holiday season and a fabulous new year! May all that glitters be gold.

Lots of Fun at the Thanksgiving Classic
Brazen, Jack and Flyer represented Triplecreek in fine fashion at this years' Thanksgiving Classic. Flyer entered a competition ring for the very first time, and earned her first Rally Novice leg on Saturday. She followed up on Sunday with a perfect 100 for 2nd place on her second leg. Jack placed 3rd in Novice Obedience for his second CD leg, and Brazen had a clean run in Agility for his first Open Jumpers leg. Look for the three of them to complete these titles and hopefully many others in the new year.

Jazz Wins the Veterans Stake
Jazz pinned every mark to win the Veterans Stake at the SBGRC 2009 Fall Fun Field Trial at the age of 12-1/2. She bested several 8- and 9-year-olds (really just kids) and was given a good run for her money by the sentimental favorite, a spry 15 year old who was just delighted to be out fetching her ducks again. Here's hoping Jazz will still be wowing the crowd at 15.

Jack Earns His CCA
Jack completed his Certificate of Conformation Assessment at the SBGRC evaluation on September 27, 2009. Three different judges went over him thoroughly, piece by piece and gave him scores ranging from the mid 80s to low 90s out of a theoretically perfect 100. The pretty boy now has proof!

It's That Time of Year Again...

Southern Berkshire Golden Retriever Club will once again spend 3 days at the Big E educating the public on responsible dog ownership, training and activities. This year's dates are September 23rd, 24th and 25th, 2009. Jazz and Brazen will do their part on Friday the 25th. Come and see them at the Farm-a-Rama building. They'd love to see ya!

Jack Adds His First Advanced Title!

At the Hudson Valley Cluster on June 18 & 19, 2009 Jack demonstrated that even pretty boys can sometimes be smart. He finished his Rally Advanced title, again in torrential rain, with a First Place and followed it up the next day with another First Place for a bumper leg in somewhat better weather. It's time this boy enters into formal obedience, and begins agility training. Watch for him. "Barbie" grew a brain!

5 Years and Counting . . .
It has been 5 years since Jazz was diagnosed with and treated for Stage IV B-cell Lymphoma. She will be twelve years old soon and is healthy, happy, active and strong. She is truly a survivor!
At the time of her diagnosis the odds of survival were just 5%-7%. Thanks to the fabulous care she received from Dr. Gerald Post and the staff at the Veterinary Oncology and Hematology Center in Norwalk, CT, she has beaten those terrible odds by a mile!
Great strides are being made in cancer research. The odds have increased in the past 5 years to 10%-14%. Still horribly low, I know, but doubled in just 5 years. If advances continue at this rate could the end be in sight? Let's hope so. Please support cancer research whenever you are able. Jazz thanks you, and her children and grandchildren thank you.

Jack is a "2-Legged" Dog!

On April 18, 2009 Jack walked into an Advanced level ring for the very first time and walked out with 2nd place! He qualified again the next day, and now needs only 1 more for his Rally Advanced title. His performance was not without a certain amount of creativity - he is, after all, Duke's grandson. Silliness and smiling judges aside, all in all he did a pretty good job of it.

It's Spring!!!

It's finally Spring! Time to get back outside, do some training, BLOW COAT!!! Wow, that feels much better! Time to get back to all the fun stuff. Jack will walk into a Rally ring next week without a leash on for the very first time. Will he secumb to his doggie ADD or will he be brilliant? Tune in soon to find out. Outdoor Agility Trials are also right around the corner. Yaaaaay!

Happy Christmas to All ...

...and to all a good night!   Happy Holidays and a blessed and prosperous New Year 2009 to all of our friends old and new.

With love from the Triplecreek Gang.

Update: Good times had by all, and hopefully we've managed to enlighten a few more people along the way. Most common question: "How do I get my dog to behave as well as yours?" (Answer: TRAIN, TRAIN, TRAIN!)
Most common statement: "I have a Golden too, but he's much bigger than yours. He's 120 lbs. Oh, no, he's NOT fat; he's just a big boy."   Ah, never a dull moment at the Big E.
